Atera rack not tilting

Picked up a 2 bike rack to replace my 3 bike Strada. Not sure which model but it's a bit wider and not one of the current ones. It's in a lot better condition cosmetically but I have discovered the tilt isn't working.

Loosened the bolts slightly but it won't budge. Any pointers?

I have this problem frequently with mine...where the bar is that does the tilting - stick a spray lube in there and give it a good spray/soak... apparently it gets stuck and the spray lube easies everything off to allow the tilt mechanism to release and work

I had the same last summer - spray loads of WD40 into the tilting mechanism, let it stand for a couple of minutes and then gently work it loose with your hand/foot. Once it's free and tilted repeat the tilting operation for another few mins

I did a WhatsApp video call with a tech guy from RoofBox.co.uk and he talked me through it.

Not wanting to be that guy, but is it one that slides rather than tilts? Otherwise, liberal coatings of some kind of lube have worked for me with my Atera

Yeah definitely tilt rather than slide. Will get spraying!

The kick bar on the newer one seems to be welded to the top frame unlike the old one where it moves independently. Will report back if lube sorts it..

I used grease. Note, on mine there's 2 sliders, one is harder to spot

Is it really old? Does it have the interlock pin at the right hand side behind the kick bar? This needs to be pressed down before kicking the bar. On mine, which must be ten years old this isn’t obvious at all.

Slide the interlock across then depress the tilt release bar?

That's how my old sliding one worked.

It's got the black pull slider on the right and I think the slider on the left moves when the tilt occurs in therapy.

Will check for another locking pin but it's got the rounded lights and 13 pin plug so not that old?

Sounds the same tilt solution as the one I've got - spraying the lube will do the trick...but it should be done semi-regularly to keep on top of it. I did think about spray grease for it but then figured as it was already manky there, something like spray grease would just collect even more mank.

I discovered a few weeks ago that my Atera had probably not been cleaned and greased since we got it in, er, 2016.

Quite how it didn't occur to me that being exposed to road muck being thrown up and muck being washed off muddy bikes on wet journeys home, I have no idea. I am an idiot.

Progress, but not fixed. I think it's just not been used enough, it's not corrosion perhaps overly strong springs.

I am having to slide the left sider forward, stand on the bar and pack under the left side "foot".

Then lift the right slider and keep it raised while I slide it forward, at which point I can get it to tilt.

There are a pair of push fit spacers, 2l and 2r under the back of the frame where it rests so I might try adding another washer under these.

Liberal WD40 applied but the catches are all free, just overly sprung it seems.

Will look again tomorrow..
