On a continuum of soft cheese rapidly wearing away to a useless nubbin, when do you decide to call it a day and buy another set of brass cheeses?

When you can actually feel the cleat disengaging at the bottom of the pedal stroke? (I'm not sure where this fits on the continuum).

Yep when it disengages on the upstroke or when a little bit of sideways movement has you out if them. Which shouldnt be too long. They wear quick and I always find the old ones a bugger to remove.
