I'm new to all this new fangled GPS malarkey, so bear with me as I'm obviously missing something blindingly obvious....

There is a route on MapmyRide I want to load onto my Edge 200.

I select "Export as GPX" - yes?

When it asks me where I want to save it to I save it to the Garmin (which is DEFINITELY plugged in to computer) - yes?

It appears to send/save the route across as normal.

I look on the Edge unit and there is nothing to be found/seen in "Courses"

What stupid error have I made?

Thanks for any help and abuse....

Try exporting it as a .TCX file

Do you have the Garmin Plugin installed or are you doing a file export?

(I'm assuming this works like my Edge 705)

I do the export as TCX idea above on my edge 205. I also use bikeroutetoaster for mapping my own routes as well, I find it uploads more reliably.

Save the GPX file to your computer. Then copy it over to a folder on the Garmin. From memory I think you need to drop it into "new files" folder. Once that is done power up the Garmin and the new file route will now be in courses.

It really is very simple.

Obviously not simple enough I'm afraid.....

I can see a copy of the route in the NewFiles folder through the computer, but nothing on the Edge unit itself

I've tried saving a copy to "Courses" as well, same result, shows as being on the external device through the computer but not on the unit itself.

Try creating a route with Bikeroutetoaster (anything - just to try it out) . Export it to the unit as a TCX file and it should appear under "Training" on the unit.

Are you using the Garmin Communicator Plugin or just doing a file transfer via Windows?

As above copy into newfiles folder and then turn on the farming with it not plugged into your computer it should then appear in the courses bit...

Honestly, I've been following the instructions ^^^

Giving in for tonight and going to bed - may dig out a map and compass tomorrow!

Thanks for your efforts all

It really is that simple MoreCashThanDash.

In fact so simple, I've put a 40 second video together to show you how (It took me longer to upload than film). If it hadn't taken me 10 seconds to unplug the Garmin after the transfer it would have been even shorter. 😉

1) Drag the GPX file from your PC into the New Files folder on the Garmin
2) Unplug the Garmin
3) Power up the Garmin
4) Select Courses
5) And voila the route is there

Bear in mind, once you've copied it into the Newfiles folder, it will immediately disappear, so the folder appears empty.

Big thanks to all who tried to help

Nothing worked following all the various instructions - so I tried mapping the route on bikeroutetoaster - which I'd not tried before - and it transferred over perfectly!

This is good to read as Garmin gave me some crap story and said it would only work with connect routes!
