The trails have reached that stage.... I've been pondering one of these: http://ass-savers.com/products/ass-saver-wide
Has anyone got any experience of them?
They keep the mud off your ass but that's about it! If you want a clean back you will need something bigger
Go for a mudhugger, great bits of kit.
i have one in my bag that i pop on my commuter if theres surface water on the road. they save your ass. wouldnt be worth the ridicule on the mtb...
They're OK for keeping very light road spray at bay, if the roads are wet, as mentioned, you're better off with something bigger. I wouldn't use one off road, it would be a waste of time.
They don't fit easily on all saddles, so may need some modification with scissors. They don't work well with seat packs. I bought one a couple of years ago, used it a couple of times and it's now in the garage somewhere, I might even had binned it.
I had one of those, great on the ride to the trail on the cross bike, did what it was meant to. vanished in less than a mile off road though. never did find it.
They keep the mud and water out of your crack, which is a good thing in my opinion. As above, they don't protect much else. I leave one on my mountain bike all the time now.
I had one. Didn't do anything. Utterly useless if you wheelie / manual through puddles. Think what angle the mud flappy thing is at when you're on your back wheel...
Like bringing a spoon to a gun-fight. And then pointing it at your adversaries with your thumb cocked and yelling "peow! peow!" and doing little mock-recoils as you blast them, with your spoon. And them looking at you in increasingly amused bafflement before shooting you right through the lungs.
Good as long as you are sat down and have a waterproof jacket
Not in my experience!
certainly helps if you want some protection without a full length guard?
especially if running a saddle with a pressure relieving slot in the middle, stops any spray coming up and wetting your gentlemen's parts 😉
I run one on the rear of my MTB and the RRP neoprene guard on the front fork.
Useless, and fell apart quickly.
Front Endooro guard type is handy for minimising ingested shite, rear pointless really.
There's nothing too fall apart with them!
Cracked along the fold
They seem pretty useless to me - what protection from splashing mud can this thing provide, being so highly mounted and so small?
I use the Racepac 29er and after riding over muddy sections there are still bits of dirt on clothing/helmet!
So in my opinion - go big or go home 😆
I found them good for what they are intended, saving your arse from getting wet.
If you wear padded lycra with nothing on top then it can get wet and stay wet exactly where you don't want it to, and these help stop that.
