... since I obviously can't work it out:

On lots of the iplayer thumbnails ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/sport/featured) there's a pic of an upside down bike being fiddled with by a rider, near the rear mech.  The mech appears to have some kind of weird extra "thing" that looks like it's made of kit-kat foil attached to it.  Rider doesn't seem to be removing it, so I suppose not jammed in there.

I'm pretty sure no such thing exists on my bike.  WTF is it ?  If it's a normal part it's either taken some stick from the chain (how?) or they've had a file at it (why).  Surely BBC haven't "shopped" in a mystery part

Is it just a parallax thing that I'm not seeing right ?

I'd never seen the 'person' in that icon before :).  Maybe this says something about levels of emotional intelligence or some shit like that

I just see a bike with curly handlebars

The silver bit? It’s the cable stop for a 10spd XT mech.

It does look like it's the cantilever arm of the mech, where the cable attaches. But it also looks like it's either been covered in tin foil, or it's been shotblasted with gravel.

There's a dotted pink overlay, and I think it's just a bit old/pitted/dirty.

And of all the pictures they could have chosen from, they pick someone removing a rear wheel in close up... really odd choice

Thanks all, now I see it.  Now all I need to do is work out how it got into such a battered state (the chain couldn't ride up on that could it?)

As for the frayed cable, 😥

Wow. Every time I've looked at that thumbnail I've thought it was a bike the right way up and the back of two heels on the pedals, not hands. I think I need to go for an eye exam pronto...

Never mind that, explain to me why, on the Eurosport titles to any cycling programme, the cassette is on the wrong side! Or, more pertinently, why they thought it was a good idea.
