I have been dismantling my bike tonight and I can't get the ChrisKing crownrace off the fork! Any tips before I destroy everything!?
MM
are you a careful person & fairly dextrous ?
nice sharp chisel works well for me but I guess you could score the steerer if clumsy
is there no lip to get a drift against?
Try a stanley knife blade hammered in between the race and the fork crown to get it moving. Remember to do each side
you can get a tool for about £18 ...there really is no easy way but i think the above post is the moethod i would use ...my local bike shop took mine off for a fiver
I've tried the above with a screw driver, I'll try something thinner.
It's marking the fork 🙁
I liberated a steel table knife from somewhere, perfect to get things started...
Well it's off...if a bit marked!
Now, tips for seating it on the new fork?
MM
I paid a shop a fiver to remove and refit a crown race (as well as cut a fork down and fit a sfn)
Just easier 8)
I used stanley knife blades & patience.
i put all non-split crown-races in a vice, and split them with a hacksaw*. sometimes i do it at an angle (i have no idea if this helps in anyway).
no more impossible to fit/remove crown-race issues. (done this on 2 king headsets btw)
*do at owners risk - if it ****s your headset, don't come crying to me!
