Hi!
I'm looking for a pair of armoured under shorts mainly for dh and uplift day use. Dies anyone have any experience or suggestions for this?
Cheers Paul
haha! my fractured hip = careful consideraion of hip protection.
I`ve got thje Fox titans and also the Poc VPD shorts.
The fox are just soft foam padding and hter POCs have that stuff that hardens on impact.
To be honest the best would be to wear them both!
the fox are for light offs only fine for the loamyness where i live/XC padding (which is whay i got them) but any rocks will hurt as the foam wont dissipate the impact.
However i`d say similar for the POCS also. The stuff is 3 layers of their VPD material and it will still hurt in a slam but hopefully enough to prevent too much more damage (broken hips).
For smoother bike parks like windhill rogate etc or for something like Afan i'd use the fox as the protection is more flexible and they are less sewaty and nicer to pedal in and i'd accept the extra risk
If i go uplifting in wales i use the POCS for teh extra protection. i do notice the weight and they do get a bit saggy (should have sixed down or theyve stretched alot!
When i was still a bit sore i used both as i thionk that acually would stop breaks - the harder shell for protection and softer padding uder to dissipate the impact.
I think POC have missed a trick here. for MTB a single layer (or maybe 2) of the VPD and some perforated higher density foam would be ace.
The Gforms and bliss use the hardening material just like the pocs although the poc is thicker. these are more rash prevention than protection i recon.
they do get sweaty if you are putting in efffort!
The 661 Evo’s
I just got a set of the old 661's because they were my size and £20.(eBay)..hence not much different to any other extra set of liners.
Not had chance to pedal in them yet.... but they feel like they are fine and take enough out for somewhere soft like Rogate or FoD. As per Van Halen's Fox really... can't see them doing much on sharp rocks... though it will be more than wearing unpadded ones.
