Hi
I am relatively new to MTB and still find the inner linings that come with some shorts bizarre. However, having fallen over repeatedly in the last six months and landed on just about every part of my body, I am considering upping my protection as I get faster. Any one use protective inner pants (or outer shorts) and have any advice about brands etc?
Thanks in advance.
You can get the evoc ones with a chamois unlike some of the crash shorts out there :

A little bulkier than normal but not bad at all.
I think you can get them with a chamois so check before buying.
The Evoc look better than those race face, no coccyx protection on the race face for a start.
True, but in years of [s]crashing [/s] testing I've never once managed to land on my arse like that. Evoc make snowboarding gear which I guess is where the coxyx protection comes from.
My hips on the other hand have been thankful for my 661 under shorts. No chamois but riding hard enough to justify wearing them and sitting down are mutually exclusive.
OTOH, I've stopped wearing body armor (and a full face unless strictly necessary) as I found it gave a cocooned feeling on invulnerability. And all it did was protect me from relatively minor injuries (cuts, scrapes, bruises), which meant I crashed more and broke bones instead.
Lightweight knee pads and gloves if it's somewhere rocky, other than that just a helmet and accept that crashing hurts, and that's a good thing because it's your body's way of telling you that you've been silly.
I've got a large pair of brand new evoc crashpants £42 posted if any use .. http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/fs-evoc-crash-pants-size-large-44-posted-bnwt
