Who could use a random act of kindness via a pair of free, very nice (rrp £100) bib shorts?
I've advertised them in the classifieds a few times and now I'm sick of looking at them. They were won by me at work. A long and boring story but basically the prize was £100 to be spent on the winners behalf by colleagues. They bought these but they're massively too big for me.

Monksie - any chance of a reply to my emails?

Well contrary to the above these were promised to me as the OP said he couldn't get hold of robdob.

I offered to pay postage but the OP said dont worry about postage and he will get them in the post.

I emailed a few times and was told they went in the post Monday.

They haven't turned up and fearing they had been lost in the post Ive emailed monksie a few times just to see what the score was ... no reply.

I was looking on ebay earlier and found a pair the same. not wanting to jump to massive conclusions but it seems strange there is someone else from stockport selling the same bibs in the same size as an unwanted gift.

Fair enough they were being donated but if you change your mind just tell people.

No dont flame him. As I said I may be jumping to conclusions and after all he was giving them away on here.

I did pester him by email a bit so he may of just got peed off with me too !

Hopefully the OP will reply to let us all know whats going on as it would be a shame if they are lost in the post.

🙁

Not my intention.

I am concerned that the shorts have been lost in the post that's all?

But then I spot those others on ebay.... like I said I may be jumping to massive conclusions so would like to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Monksie emailed me straight away asking for postage payment as a bank transfer. I replied pretty quickly said I would prefer PayPal as I had credit in there but I didn't get an answer, or to a follow up email sent after Renton contacted me. No idea what's going on. Good job I didn't tell the person I was getting them for that they were going to be his!

just my tuppence worth -- cut the guy some slack, I know monksie and can be a bit haphazard at times, I think he was off doing some long ride around that time too -- just saying. Nothing sinister going on anyway, I'm sure 🙂

Most of my emails since his last one about posting them have gone unanswered this week even though he has been on here.

As I said its up to the op to do what he likes with the shorts.

^ If I was the OP, and I read this thread, having had a busy weekend riding and having fun, I would probably poo in the bibs, before sending them to you.

If anyone's accusing Monksie of malicious wrongdpoing, they really couldn't be further from the mark.

Sounds like communication eff-up rather than anything else.

I'm not accusing him of anything.

I'm concerned that the shorts he has said he posted a week ago now haven't arrived and maybe lost in the post.

Howver it does seem incredibly strange there is an identical pair in the same size in the same location as monksie for sale on eBay.

If he would reply to emails or maybe respond on here we may get the full story ?

You ****ing what?
Have you got me on your blocked senders list? I have replied to every single (and God knows how many) email(s) you have sent!
I gave my daughter £5 and the parcel to post and £5 for sending it (she does nothing for free) so that's cost me £10. Sadly, I didn't know she hadn't bothered herself to actually post it for quite a few days but in the meantime, your endless questions regarding a brand new £100 pair of bib shorts that I was sending you for FREE was getting very tedious! Some of them were reading as almost demands!
Before I discovered them unsent I was wishing I'd never bothered trying to do a kind thing.
When I did discover them unsent, I emailed you to tell you what I was doing (with an apology but I'd seen my arse by this point), stuck them on Ebay, sold them, have paypal'ed the money to St. Anns Hospice and then had this bollocks pointed out to me! We're done fella. Never again.
I should have known this was a bad idea when I emailed you at the very beginning to say that if RobBob didn't get a shift on and reply with £5 postage (this was the Saturday and I said I'd give him until last thing Sunday night) you could have them. To which you replied you'd send me £5 straight away if it "influenced your decision"....hardly in the spirit of the offer but I thought I'd let it slide.
I think we're done, fella.
You try to do a nice thing.......
RobBob. I said as you were first to claim them, I'd post them within 30 mins (I was just on my way to the post office anyway) if you'd be so kind as to send me the £5 for postage and your address. No reply until mid week. I wanted rid. Sorry, you missed out.
With that, I would advise never trying to do a random kind thing on here and say thanks to the guys who have vouched for me. All this for trying to GIVE AWAY some expensive, brand new cycle shorts. Cheeky ****ers! Never again.....

Try again. I didn't send 'many' emails to 'either' of them. It's all up there. The whole unfortunate chain of events. Just Renton although God knows I got 'many' from him. "Pitch forks"? For a free gift? Really?
Never mind. Carry on without me.

No such thing as a free lunch. But honestly monksie don't give anything away for free, especially if you can't deliver, it only causes bad feelings.

Eh?

I'm obviously joking with pitchfork remarks and what not. But the whole sequence of events is peculiar! Starting with a £100 present in entirely the wrong size!

Firstly I wasn't very well so didn't reply immediately, but it wasn't midweek, it was Monday. So don't start telling people lies. At least I have learnt not to buy or sell anything from you in the future. You could have least have the courtesy to tell me I wasn't getting them rather than just ignore my emails.

Isnt it just.

Im not having someone try and discredit me over this.

I will admit to sending a few emails yes but thats only because I was not sure if mine were getting through as monksie was quite quick to reply at the start.

I would like monskie to explain how they appeared on ebay before he supposedly sent them out to me??

I think that monksie has been found out and tried to back pedal. Only his timings don't work.

I don't know why though. They are his shorts to do as he pleases with but he should just be more honest with people.

I don't think he has, just a communication breakdown I think combined with a change of mind.

Although I am thankful that we don't have to see various images of Renton wearing them asking whether they are the right size.

Whilst I would say the price is immaterial, and I'd want someone to tell me if I thought something was lost in the post, rather than just dismissing it on the basis that they were free...

I've hardly harrased someone.

This all started around two weeks ago, I admit I did offer the fiver postage before monksie had heard back from robdob. I then sent him an email asking if he had managed to post them out as I would need to arrange someone to be in for the posty.

Then I asked one question about if monskie New the pad width,Not that it mattered.

When I hadn't heard from him I sent another email actually apologising for pestering him and again just politely asked if he had managed to post them out. This was Tuesday this week and got a reply "they went in the post yesterday Steve"
Then I sent an email to say great and that I would let him know when they arrive.

By Thursday when they hadn't arrived I was a bit concerned they had been lost in the post so sent another email saying as such.

So I found it a bit strange that monksie hadn't replied to emails as quick as he had previously.

Then just out of curiosity I had a look on eBay and noticed a pair exactly the same in the same size and also the same location as monskie.

He also hasn't been replying to robdob either.

So whilst I appreciate they were going to be a free pair of shorts surely a bit of honesty on monksie part to say he had changed his mind and had put them on ebay rather than donating them would of been better than his rant on here calling me a ****

Cant see why Renton is getting a hard time here, he may have been keen with the emails sure, but to tell someone that the parcel is in the post whilst you put it on ebay is off. To then come on here name calling is double off.

So the OP had a change of mind and why does he need to get the level of ire and abuse his way?

If I had won a competition at work for £100 spend and I couldn't use the item given I'd give them away if not sold but I'd want something from the deal. I'd want a charity donation. To expect a RRP £100 scott-free then kick off - why didn't the people who want the item at least offer something? Or something to charity? When I was 'given' a tent from a ebay transaction I gave a donation to Samaritans. When someone gave me a Bang and Olufsen tv I gave him wine. It wasn't asked for - I did it.

As with anything the OP can change his mind. If you'd have sweetened it with a charitable act I imagine he'd have felt vindicated in his own act.

Robdob- you aren't 6ft. I'm sure you aint!

I haven't met monksie or renton or robdob. I did however have a transaction with monksie that is worth sharing to show his integrity. I sold him a cheap new seatpost (£13) in February, he paid by bank transfer and I sent it regular royal mail. It never arrived and didn't come back to me either (I forgot to put a senders address on it).

After a few weeks I offered to refund but he was having none of it, as it wasn't my fault it got lost. We agreed that I'd make a donation of same amount to a charity of his choice, and he chose St Anne's Hospice (same one as he donated the ebay money for these same bibs to..). Donation was made, nobody lost out really, seatpost never arrived anywhere.

Seems like a decent person to me.

The way I am reading this thread is as follows:

OP wants to do a good deed and advertises a free gratis pair of bib shorts. He then gets a couple of folk wanting them, so emails the first one who is a bit shoddy in replying. He gets in touch with the second one who turns out to be a bit greedy, and asks all sorts of questions and pisses off the OP who then decided **** it and fires them onto Ebay.

The only bad guys here are the folk who were wanting something for nothing and couldnt be arsed to put the effort in to be nice about it.

Cards are marked....

Oh FFS, what do you want, pistols at dawn to defend your honour? There's been some confusion over a free, that's FREE, pair of shorts. Your lack of perspective over that has led to the name calling.

Anyhoo, I'm out as, and I never thought I'd type these words, Hora has summed it all up nicely.

There is no confusion. Op came on here yesterday spouting off that he had replied to all my emails as well as robdobs when he hasn't. Then he makes out he put them on eBay after he had told me about it. He didn't he put them on eBay before he told me that he had posted them out to me which he clearly hadn't done.

Given the large amount of charity work Monksie's done in the past and other things he's discussed on the forum, I'd say getting hacked off and sticking them on ebay for charity was entirely in character and the right thing to do.
