Did a couple of rides at Cannock today. I couldn't believe how good the weather was but was more amazed how good the trails were. The Monkey Trail had some slippy sections but most of it was rolling amazingly well. Follow the Dog was in unbelievable condition considering the recent rain. Busy tho'

Warm up here in Galloway as well but raining as usual, went a walk last weekend round my fav local trails i've made/maintained/rode (delete as appropriate) for the past 20 odd years and they are trashed, I've never seen that much water lying on them before and there's trees down all over the place due to the root system getting waterlogged and pulling out, whole sections are washed away, some stretches are 6" deep with glarry mud and because the weather was that dire last year i haven't really been riding them and the few walkers or folk that know about them haven't been able to pass through the briars etc and the undergrowth has encroached across the paths, it's gonna take a helluva work just to bring them up to a standard that i can pass through them never mind ride them.

I've got mates that are in the process of tying up up their farm and properties/businesses and making a move to somewhere in France/Northern Spain,Portugal within 3 yrs time, i'm more than welcome to tag along......never thought i would but i'm now seriously considering it.

Of course it's January. It was warm and sunny today so it's clearly not summer 🙄

This is why I was so surprised about Cannock. Following all the mild wet weather I expected a gloopy mess but it was actually very good. It must be really well drained...or Cannock has its own micro-climate!

Just a few miles away from the Chase and I mowed my lawn yesterday. It was the driest it's been since about last September! I'll see what the trails are like tomorrow...

Did Cannock at 9 this morning and it was Brilliant ! The braking holes of last year had almost gone 😀

Cannock drains really well, cos its round pebbles and sand that chews ya bearings up !

@adi66 I think you'll find the braking bumps have been filled in by the hard-working Chase Trails volunteers 🙂

I myself need to book a sunday morning soon to get out with the work boots and jeans rather than my bike and give a little back hopefully in return for some good karma. I've seen Chase Trail pixies out almost every day that I've been there in the last month - there's a hell of a lot of maintenance that goes into those trails to keep them running despite the hammering they get from thousands of riders and the umpteen different types of rain we've had.

The good trail conditions aren't just down to the rain stopping!

Avoided riding in the monsoon season (christmas break) but went out today and was amazing, perfect temperature and the ground was tacky but fairly fast. (Midlands Based)

Lucky you OP 😉 My SS rear wheel got so jammed with mud today I was dragging/walking the bike with a totally locked rear wheel out of boggy Essex clay at one point! 👿
