Are trailforks maps baked into modern garmins now?

As the title really - are the trail forks mapped baked into the maps you get on the new garmins (I have a new 840 which i'm yet to use in anger yet)? I read somewhere that the 530 had trails forks built in - what does this mean?

Are all the trails preloaded? Do the maps have offroad trails as well?

Does this mean it's pointless getting the trailforks pro thing? Do i need to install the connectiq thing? Coming from a wahoo bolt, so this is all new to me!

I don’t know if any have it included out the box, but Trailforks do have a map that you can load on to it.

It works OK but you have to disable the Garmin basemap otherwise I found that it causes navigation issues - the map stopped scrolling properly and I couldn’t see where I was.

I haven’t used them extensively but they work and are OK for finding trails if you’re in the right area.

On the 830 there's a Trailforks map layer that is visible by default on the mtb profile. Not sure what Trailforks pro offers but if you just want the maps then the garmin covers that.

https://www.trailforks.com/garmin/

looks like you need pro for the custom basemaps, but I don't know what the maps look like without pro

I think you have to be a Trailforks Pro users for it to work everywhere, but I think (don't quote me) as a non paying subscriber you can choose an area to download and it'll show the Trailforks segments in that area. I think if you use Trailforks options on the 530, you can choose between uploading your own routes, have the device look for nearby trails, or look for popular routes. Choose one and it'll navigate you to it.

I've used it on holiday in Scotland when I was staying near Appin, and there were trails nearby, and it was pretty good for that

I find it quite handy. I don't use any features other than being able to see where the trails are and their names when your in that area. Saves getting my phone out.

Also, consider the Komoot option that you can download onto Garmin from the IQ store, I think the Komoot route-making map is (for me at least) more intuitive, cleaner and easier to use than Basecamp, and uploads easily to Garmin.

Yes, baked in. From the Garmin website specs for the 840

INTEGRATED TRAILFORKS TRAIL DATA

Unless disabled in the settings Trailforks trails will appear on the map screen on the Garmin OSM map

No need with the newer Garmin devices (like my 530). Just set up a link between Komoot and Garmin Connect. All the routes you create are automatically synced to Connect as Courses and are in your Edge as soon as you sync it
