Are there any SPD shoes as wide as Freeriders?

I've got some Freeriders which are lovely and comfy on the bike but I'm tempted to try some SPDs. Trouble is I really CBA to buy 10+ pairs of shoes to try in order to find some comfy ones... When I first bought cycling shoes I had no end of bother trying to get some wide enough. I don't have particularly wide feet (I don't think) in so far as normal shoes fit me perfectly but I tried on loads of cycling shoes trying to get comfy. Maybe my feet spread out more on the pedals than other's, but I definitely had numb feet until I got the Freeriders.

Anyone got any suggestions for decent, comfortable SPDs?

Do you want disco slippers or skate shoes?

If disco slippers, I found lake competition last wide fit shoes to be really roomy. MX238 and MX241 for example.

In my experience, insoles can make a world of difference. I've had a decent insole turn an average comfort shoe into something very comfortable.

5.10 impact vxi are wide, I have a pair that I don't use anymore as they were too wide for me. I currently run Shimano ME7's which are narrower

Lakes look good actually - I’d forgotten about them.

Shimano AM9s are worth considering. My old Hellcats were a perfect fit but when I bought some new ones a couple of years ago Adidas had made them narrower (or at least less able to take my feet which are both wide and high instep). AM9s fit me, and I also like their quick lacing and absence of thorn catching normal laces, which were a disadvantage of the Hellcats. But for me their longevity is a bit so-so.

I was searching again for shoes recently because the above (previous generation) AM9s won't last much longer and are less than 2y old. I couldn't see a better option that was a decent bet on width so just bought another pair of AM9s. These new generation ones appear sturdier in both the areas that are failing (mainly where the top strap pulls through, but also how sole bonds to/wraps around upper around the toe box) in my old ones.

Our daughter has wide feet. She is in Fiveten Kestrel Boa. The Hellcats were too wide for her

Interesting. I have Kestrels but they are prob just a bit too narrow - notice a bit of pinch after 3 or so hours. Otherwise excellent. May give the Hellcats a go

my forefoot is wide and my instep is high. Since Shimano changed their fit both the AM9 and ME7 no longer fit.

Finding Crank Brothers Mallet very comfortable. (the enduro has a very slightly better sole, but loses the rearward cleat position so the 'not e' version is a better buy.)

Same as @luket - my original Hellcats are perfect (but falling to bits) but the redesign seems narrower/tighter.
I have just bought some Endura MT500 spds - one 40km ride so far and no pinch points or rubbing so fingers crossed.

Lake +1

Compared to most brands here's 4 widths to chose from as the top tiers are intended to be slightly closer fitting so they interleave with the fit of the 'recreational' shoes. All £££ though, even the cheapest ones are £150-£200.

Wide and expensive
Wide
Really wide and expensive
REALLY wide

I have ridiculously wide feet, normally 2 or 3 sizes up on length, but the SHimano AM shoes have been excellent for me, I only have to go up 1 size...

Short answer - No.
I’ve tried to find wide SPD shoes for MTB and gave up. Even my old Greg Minnaar shoes aren’t as wide as their equivalent.
The wife has really wide feet (thanks to pregnancy and wearing foot shaped shoes/going barefoot) and the best she can do is size up her Shimano shoes but then runs the risk of looking like a penguin

Sidi Dominator Megas are the only MTB shoes that I've found are wide enough for my feet.
I've got some Lake MX.., they are meant to be extra wide. They are not as wide as the Sidis.
Moffat Outdoors has some Megas in stock at the moment at a decent price.

"Lakes look good actually – I’d forgotten about them."

so have their importer! Absolutely shocking product promotion, which is a shame as they're bleedin' good shoes!

I have three pairs for all occasions and they are W I D E !
Sidi Dominators are too, but pretty slippery off the bike.

Depends where uou need the width. A lot of shoes advertised as wide are still narrow/pointy at the end. I have wide feet that are also short and square so have to get shoes that are a few cm's too long.
