I had a rather unwelcome coming together with a tree yesterday, this was not anywhere near as bad however as the subsequent coming together with the ground.
My camelbak protected my upper back but my lower spine and coccyx are extremely painful and this got me thinking. Are there any bib shorts that offer a bit of padding for that lower back and tailbone area?
I'm not gnarr by any stretch of the imagination but surely there must be something for the AM/FR crowd who wear a camelbak etc?
to be honest, the kind of people riding AM/FR arent likely to be wearing bib shorts. however there are padded shorts on the market, with different levels of protection.
i know fox do a pair and also POC, both are very good at absorbing impacts (ive got one of each 😀 )
alternatively you could look at the POC spinal boards
Evoc do some backpacks with protectors built in, but I cant think that you will get any bibshorts with arse protection.
What happened ?
Coming down from Brocton Coppice on the run with the jump, not the run where Snakey ran over you, did the berm round the tree then coming out of the next left I hit the tree on my right. I knew it would be close and when I hit it I thought I was gonna struggle to keep control but the next thing I knew I was in the air and landed flat on my back. I'd hit the tree so hard that it stopped me in my tracks cos I landed next to it.
Annoyingly I've scuffed the top tube on the Blur in 2 places and everything's twisted so heavily that the rear tyre has rubbed the inside of both seat stays
3 hours in A&E, had an x-ray of hips, lower back and shoulder, nothing broken but lots of pain, painkillers and diazapam for the next few days, very unhappy
Youre pushing your envelopes, t'happens, although with alarming regularity lately. Pretty sure BJ flipped it on that trail and landed on his back couple of weeks ago.
You didnt damage the trail did you ? 😛
Not bibs, but I have some Dainese Impact Shorts, which are pretty subtle, but protect hips and tailbone well. They have a small amount of saddle padding, not as much as proper bike shorts.
I quite often wear them and not the upper body armour as the upper armour is too restrictive 🙄
The trail's fine, altho it is happening a bit too regularly, whiplash last week and now this, annoying
