I have a road bike frame which I bought ages ago from a friend and realise it does not have the little plastic cable guide that fits to the bottom of the bb shell, so was just wondering how specific they are to each frame or if they are pretty generic and you can replace them with almost any.

If interchangeable... anyone got a spare?

Cheers!

I'm sure I have one off an old Stumpie M2... if they are universal I'm sure if I find it, you can have it..

That one in the pic looks pretty generic. For most steel frames they're usually the same. LBS should sort you out for nowt.

Yes, I had to change one recently on my daughter's bike, have no idea how but she managed to properly mangle it.

I think there's a shimano one, a campag one and a few other more niche ones, but not so many that you couldn't buy one of each and try it.

And no just because the drivechain is shimano doesn't mean the guide is shimano, at least one of mine was campag.

Pretty much interchangeable. There are some oddities with entry and exit angles, some have a long tail for the front mech (to protect the frame) or a larger diameter (bb30 etc) but pretty much all of them will work. If it's a standard sort of frame, you'll be fine with whatever turns up.

IIRC some cable/groupsets come with them included.
