Always had problems keeping my wheels true so decided to rebuild them myself. This will be my first complete build, I've replaced spokes, nipples and trued plenty before.
I've measured the erd of the rims at multiple places using the old spoke method. There's around 4-5mm variance around the rim. Is this within tolerance and, all thing bring equal, I should be able to build a round wheel with this? Or is it new rims time?
Thats nothing.
I've had road rims that dont even meet at the join until tensioned.
Give it a wee squeeze and it'll move mire than 5mm with barely any force.
Crack on.
🙂 Thanks.
The front one on my HT has been egg shaped since I put it on. I bought 2 rims years ago & built them both myself.
TBF the seller did say one of them wasn't round. I only really notice on roads.
You'll be fine!
It turns out, it really helps if you count the spoke holes when ensuring you are measuring exactly opposite spoke holes. 1mm variance when I paid attention to what I was doing. 😳
