i want some really nice brake levers for a flat bar build
seen some i like that are classed as linear.
will they work with cable discs?
I think linear pull refers to v-brakes, but I've seen mini-v's on CX and TT bikes referred to as linear pull too and those are the same pull as road callipers.
If it turns out wrong you can always run them with road disc callipers.
If it's flat bar why would you want cable brakes? Only arguement I can see for them is that it's sometimes the easier option with drop-bar STIs.
Won't ever need bleeding and the fluid won't boil I'd lf your a serial break dragger.

And unless you're doing proper mountain biking they work just fine.
Cable brakes managed to stop me when doing "proper" mountain biking at the weekend, quickly enough that any quicker and I'd have been OTB.
Most flat bar levers are optimised for cable discs and vee brakes - they have a longer cable pull than 'road' levers that work with road callipers, mini-vees, cantilevers and 'road' discs. Some flat bar levers like Avid allow you to adjust the cable pull ratio and can be made to work with both. Those that say cable discs are rubbish says more about their mechanical abilities than the brakes themselves.
"Linear pull" refers to V brakes, some cable disc (normally labelled as being for MTBs) work with Linear pull levers, those intended for road/CX normally work with lower pull ratio (i.e. Road or cantilever) brake levers...
Any help?
I ran BB7s (MTB) with XTR levers for 11 years. Very good. Replaced with XT/SLX brakes a couple of months ago. Nicer feel, but more powerful? Not in any real sense. And will I still be using them in 11 years...?
TBF these:

Work out cheaper than pretty much any new cable disc setup would...
Swings and roundabouts, a bad bleed or a crappy cable setup can have a similar effect on the brakes performance...

Brakes don't put people OTB, poor technique puts people OTB...
