Hey, wondering if some smart people can help me with confusing standards.
I have a full sram nx groupset on a boost frame. I've broken one of the crank arms and don't really want to buy a new one...
Can I just take out the DUB bb, wang in an old GXP one and then put on an old double truvative crankset converted to x1 that I'd already convereted to x1 by by removing the two rings and adding a narrow wide. I thought this was totally fine but now when I'm googling the concept of boost chainrings and boost cranks keep coming up. Is this actually an issue and will my shifting be awful if I try this?

Your chainline might not be ideal but it will probably work fine as long as there is enough clearance between ring and chainstay. Make sure you look for an eagle compatible chainring (assuming 12 speed). Superstar have 20% off currently.
Should be fine. You can always use spacers to adjust the chainline outwards. Main thing will be does the frame have the correct BB interface for the GXP BB you have spare?
Ah, so my old raceface narrow wide chainring might not be compatible with the 12 speed chain? Yeah it's 73mm threaded so BB should fit in
Just try it I reckon - just needs to have enough clearance between chainring and chainstay and crank arms and chainstays. If your nw is on the big ring position rather than small ring it might well have enough clearance - my mate has just put a double non-boost shimano crank with nw on outboard position onto a Sonder transmitter frame and it’s fine.
Not sure on the actual chainring - I’ve used x-sync 2 rings with 11 speed and 12 speed chains with no issue.
If you find you need to buy a new chainring you may as well just pick up a new Sram dub crank with a new chainring already on it.
When I looked last the truvativ Stylo branded one were the cheapest. The 6000k one is I think the same as NX and the 7000k one the same as gx. The truvativ descendant cranks are sometimes cheaper then Sram branded equivalents too.

If its the NDS and you're not to fussed about aesthetics and crank arms matching up. I'm pretty sure I have an alloy 175mm NDS Sram crank arm in the spares box after I moved to a RF set up. Post back if interested and I'll have a look tonight when I get home.
it will be fine, the cog itself has the +/-3 or 6 on the crank works for both

Which side have you broken? I have just ruined the drive side of an NX crankset (170mm Boost) so the whole lot is going in the bin? Any use?

It depends on the frame a bit. I had to do a bit of bodging to get a non boost 4 arm crank (which it sounds like you're using) working on a boost frame. I had to move the BB spacers from the non driveside to the driveside and file down the granny ring tabs and I couldn't use a 30t chainring. Whether it's worth that faff is up to you.
