Short story:

Will a DT240 freehub cassette body fit a Trek/Bontrager (240 based) hub?

I found a Bontrager chart online that states the x lite hub is based on a DT240. But is it identical?

Big boring picture:
I’m going to upgrade my Bonti X lite wheels which are based on 240 DT hubs.

Bontrager have told me part #W431448 freehub will convert my 8/9/10 spd into 11 spd road compatible wheels yay. They said it’s based on a 240 but not sure if it’s identical.

Cost is £100 smackers!

Wheels are old but brand new condition and never used sitting in my garage.

DT sell a similar freehub cassette body to convert their DT240 8/9/10 into an 11 spd road hub with #MADHBDT2775S.

Cost is £50 smackers - cheep cheap!

Yes, they are.

The only thing to watch out is that some DT freehubs have the bearing cover for the outermost bearing integrated into the freehub (it can be removed), whilst some wheels have it integrated into the end cap. You obviously can't fit 2 bearing covers without everything going very tight (I assure you of this fact), but the freehubs usually come with an end cap, so just make sure you've got the right combination.

Thanks njee20!

I’ll check my freehub out!

Here is a picture of the cheaper freehub:

Just double checked for you as £50 sounded a little cheap and DT do have a pawl mechanism as well as the ratchets in the 240/350 and the two aren’t compatible, but yep the FH you’ve linked will fit any 240/350 to make it 11sp Shimano Road compatible. Can’t speak to the Bonty bit personally but Njee obviously can! Plenty of anecdotes around the web of standard DT parts being fitted to Bonty wheels (and even Bonty wheels being a cheap source of 54T kits!) so looks like happy upgrades!

Thanks vincienup

I’ll look at my Hub again tomorrow and see if the freehub will pull off and check if it’s pall/spline and whether if the cap seal is installed or on mount.

I’m sure if I can pull off the cap, I can pull off the freehub.

I’ll report back in 48 hrs if only to help others.
