You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
As above, I'm thinking of going as the weather is a bit crap, but unsure if it's currently worth going?
<span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">Thanks</span>
I went yesterday. Cafal is diverted after the first climb from the toll booth. You come do some fire road then the final descent, about 30-40mins riding. Twrch diverts by the steep concrete slab, sends you down a steep loose rocky track then the final descent. I did both and had 1.30 riding, a bit disappointing really, but as I live 30mins away not a problem as such.
I did notice on strava some people did the full twrch, so trail isn't blocked at the moment. But i've no idea if there's logging going on over the weekend.
Always worth checking the MTB south Wales ranger Facebook page or the Cwmcarn trail crew for updates.
Was there yesterday too and the Twrch from Castle Valley is still closed. The trail may well be free of obstructions but a lot of the trees next to the trail are unsafe, hence why it's shut. The riders still riding it are causing issues as if one of them gets hurt and needs extracting then it could lead to all the trails being closed. Seeing as the Cafall is in need of being reinstated and the top of the DH is still in need of repair it might be a good idea to stay off the closed bits. Any excuse to not spend money on the trails will be taken as some people are fighting for all the recently announced £160k earmarked for the place to be spent only on reinstating the Forest Drive road and a few upgrades to the visitor centre. Don't give them any ammunition to use against us please!
As for what's rideable? You can make a 2hr ride there by doing the bottom half of the Cafall then up the Twrch to the freeride area and doing a few laps of that before heading back to the car park. The final descent on the Twrch is running as sweet as ever and you can loop back for another run if you want too.
