I've got 3 generations of DT hubs that I need to swap the freehubs around on -
Latest is a 2022 DT350 with a microspline freehub, 148x12 axle.
Next latest is a 240s hub with the silver lettering, with an XD freehub (that I bought about a year ago) 142x12 axle
Earliest is a 240 hub off an old set of EX1750 wheels, used to be 10x135 but I recently converted it to 142x12 with a new axle and end caps. Has a standard Shimano 10 speed freehub fitted.
All have the 36T ratchets fitted, no exp business or funny stuff there.
Now I want to swap the XD freehub onto the latest 350's, and the shimano 10speed onto the middle ones.
What are my chances of this working without buying extra parts?
Should be absolutely fine, up until the new star ratchet version all star ratchet innards were basically interchangable. So as long as your newest one isn't Star Ratchet EXP, it'll be fine.
The endcaps go with the respective freehubs, so as long as they’re all 142/148x12 it’s an easy swap - just swap both the freehub and the endcap.
As above. The simplicity of pulling the cassette off while still attached to the driver body and swapping to a differe t wheel is great!
Good news for you is that 142 and 148 end cap spacing is the same so you're all good with direct cassette swaps
Thanks all, I dared to hope it would work thanks for confirming.
I do it with all mine, have XD, HG and MS which i move around between two sets, it means i can switch over to mud tyres or more dry tyres without faffing around with sealant and the likes!
I might be wrong but are the road freehubs different?
If they all mountain freehubs then you should be grand as long as the end caps are kept consistent.
I might be wrong but are the road freehubs different?
Yes, the MTB 142/135 hub-shells are 1mm wider than the Road versions, which have to accommodate the slightly longer XDR or 11-speed Shimano freehubs.
So, for example, if you put a road freehub on a MTB hub shell you'll end up with a 143 mm hub.
I'm not sure that's right with the road hubs.
I have a 350 "road" hub, it just has a different end cap along with the road driver.
I just put it on my dirt jumper with 135x10 end caps and a hg driver.
134x10?
