My front mech is showing its (pretty venerable) age and could do with being replaced. I've got a 9spd drivetrain, but there's a brand spankin' 10spd mech sitting in the bits box. Will it work okay?

Don't see why not. I've just fitted a new 3x10 front mech(cos it was cheap) to my 2 x 9 setup and it works fine. I have'nt a clue what is different between a 9 and 10 sp. mech?

I'm going to try and use my 9 speed mech when I get around to swapping over to 10 speed, have been told it 'should' be ok. Not sure the other way around tho. 🙂

You can use either mech with either chain, it doesn't matter.

Front's fine, it's the rears that have different pull ratios.
