Can I put 10spd rings on a 9spd chainset (and use a 9spd front mech), or are the rings closer together (like the rear sprockets)?

10 speed rings on 9 speed cranks are a little far apart.
10 speed chains are a bit thinner so can fall down the gap between the rings. I run granny and middle ring (with bash) 10 speed rings on 9speed cranks, but had to run spacerd bringing the middle ring in towards the granny

So I guess that means that they are /should be different distances apart?
Am I better off getting a whole 10spd crankset then, rather than fitting 10spd rings to my current 9spd cranks?

I'm referring to the shimano 9 speed 22-32-44 compared to 24-32-42 and the 10 speed double rings partly based on an assumption the OP may be wanting to try some different ratios or to switch to 10 speed without buying cranks.
Not seen any difference between 9 speed and 10 speed SLX rings apart from the number of teeth. I use them in a 9 speed set up.
10 speed front mech is prob a bit narrower between the plates to go with the thinner chain. But could always fix that with a little brute force
