Right guys, I'm sure many of you did the Ard Rock at the weekend. But for those who didn't major rocks looking to punch holes in your tyres!

I was running Swalabe Snakeskin HD up front with rockrazor out back, again snakeskin. Side walls were ok but punched a mighty hole right in the middle from a major rock hit on the front HD.

Question, would a Swalabe super gravity carcass help any, as jargon only talks about strengthened side walls. Or any other recommendations. Maxxis carcase

Cheers chaps

Bit of a mouthful but I was running 3c exo maxterra Maxxis tyres frount and rear (Shorty/Minion DHR II)

Bloody hard work pedaling but oodles of grip everywhere (apart from the dusty sheep trail where I threw my bike down the cliff)

I ran the HD's snakeskins and had no worries but I guess its just the luck of the draw

High roller 2's 60a compound. What any of that means is beyond me, tbey came with the bike, but they were ridden hard and fast over the timed sections but steady on the transition downs. No punctures running tubes , decent grip.

Was your bike ok? 😀

I ran Bud and Lou last year on my Moonlander, both tubeless and without issue. They took a fair ole beating as I was cracking on, but performed flawlessly.

After practice on a pretty scary Rock Razor on the rear, I switched to Butcher/Purgatory Controls. Was worried they might prove a bit delicate (have had mighty Chicksands roots kill two Purg sidewalls in the past!) but they performed flawlessly. Did run them slightly (5psi or so) harder than usual.

Minion dhf exo 3c back and front, super grippy going down but still rolled well up the climbs. Trouble free riding.

I was on maxxis, shorty exo front hrII rear.....
No punctures, but I run high pressure (by stw standards anyway) as am used to riding bad lines in rocky areas faster than my skill level allows.... And I hate punctures

Vigilante F&R, TCS, Light carcass (not the Tough version). Absolutely fine. Ploughed in to some rocks during a dicey overtake but didn't pinch and didn't go flat.

You're right though, the Schwalbe Supergravity does only thicken the sidewalls. However I've found mine punctureproof in the past.

Thanks Jon will take a look at them too, that's how I flatted, fully bottomed out front offline on stage 3 just before the fast bottom section.

Ran a High Roller 2 EXO TR 3C on the front and Hans Dampf Trailstar Super Gravity on the rear. Not sure what pressures but a guy who was riding behind me on one of the early transfer stages commented that my rear tyre looked pretty flat even though it was as normal! No problems until S5 when I put a dent in my rear rim causing a fair bit of air loss before it resealed - managed to get to the bottom of the stage without stopping but the off camber corners were a bit sketchy!

high roller 2 2.3 32PSIish front and rear.. a little bit higher than my normal 30 to try and ward off any risk of punctures.. i ran them with Schwalbe tubes.

3c front. normal rear.

no problems at all.

Airing towards Maxis DHRII for the rear and HRII or shorty for the front at the mo, Want big side knobs to hook up the turns.

Super gravity mary up front with a slaughter grid on the back, tubeless. They took all the abuse I threw at them over the weekend. Just a shame the rear shock never held up, the rebound circuit has gone kaput!

Super grav Mary and rock razor here runing tubless. Thought it was the perfect choice for those trails, hardpack, dusty, rocky, what they are made for.

High roller 11 3c front 26psi ardent exo rear 28psi no problems and plenty of grip, not sure if they where a drag on the climbs or it was because they where big old climbs and im not exactly a lightwheight xc whippet. To be honest its down to luck alot of the time as regards puncturing not just tyre choice/pressures.

Wtb vigilante front @22 psi, wtb breakout rear @30 psi (up from 25 following practice)

Both tough version, both tubeless, both fine.

Think looks like whatever I go for will have to look at Shwalbe super gravity, WTB tough or Maxxis downhill carcase options.

Tore through 2 of my beloved Ardents on the practice day within 10 mins of each other so went to Dales and dropped £100 on Bonty XR4 which seemed ok on the Sunday

On one chunky monkey and smorgasbord. Yet another rocky weekend despatched, no issues, CM is a big bugger on the front, smorgasbord is reasonably quick yet tough on the back. 30 quid the pair, go up tubeless no probs.

ha ha, For the terrain I was actually thinking of taking my lurcher with its lightweight schwalbe tyres for my marshalling duties as I knew dragging the bouncer up the hills would be horrid, thankfully I thought better and took my maxxis equipped meta.

The marshal at the bottom of stage 3 was telling me there had been a few fat bike flatties too!, whilst trying to re seat my tubless bead, hero !

I tore both my tires (tubeless) on stage 3:
3c exo maxterra Maxxis Minion on the front
Schwalbe SuperGravity Rock Razor on the back

Both tore at the bead, thankfully the front eventually sealed up with sealant as I only had one tube with me. It was the first ride on the Rock Razor 😥

Thanks owed to all the people who offered help during the transition as I swore and frantically pumped both tires..

I've been running mainly Supergravitys in the Lakes for 18 months now, they're usually fine where everything else (bar dual ply) has failed.

Stage 3 finish marshal could of made a fortune on track pump rental. Thankfully he was a nice guy and didn't charge ? While a friend was fixing his double blowout a queue formed to use it. Wonder what the total puncture count was on that stage?

For the record I got lucky with my specialized eskar control, had plenty of wind in then mind you. It was a chain snap on stage 3 that got me. ....

I punctured a Minion DHRII 3c Maxterra EXO through the central tread (running 33psi) coming over that wall towards the bottom of Stage 1 on Saturday. Luckily didn't have any trouble on Sunday with High Roller IIs 2.4 (27psi) front 2.3 rear (33psi) both 3c Maxterra EXOs ...but I think it's pretty much luck of the drawer with any single ply tyre around that rock ...that and good line choice!

He was a very nice guy indeed, one of our guys had a double puncture and massive crash on that stage, doing over 30mph according to GPS, and that marshal was great help getting the medics and looking after his bike whilst he was carted off.

Any thoughts on Mavic charge and roam tyres, they are dual ply and under 1kg each!

Dual ply is overkill for AR.

Maybe, but at that weight the extra security may be worth it???

My fave riding is lakes rocky stuff, I'm 16 stone, and generally have around 19-22 psi in my tyres, and single ply do me fine.

I do wonder if folks that suffer from ripped tubeless tyres have them a bit over inflated. Just my musings.
