This was supplied with my XC bike as a rear, but got ditched for a Bonty XR1. Now I've spectacularly destroyed the XR3 that was on the front, it's this or a Maxxis Forekaster from the spares pile.

The Forekaster seems the safe bet, would the Ardent Race be a front tyre too far?

It's fine on an xc bike in the dry. It's better than an ikon on the front. So if an xr1 = ikon roughly then should be ok.

Ardent Race in the dry for XC riding is a great fast tyre ime. I’ve run them front and rear with no problems.

The 2.35 Ardent Race is significantly more toothy than the 2.2 (which is the basis of the scary reviews).

Ardent Race Fr and Ikon Rr, both in 2.35“ work great on my hardtail. Relatively light too.

I was put off the 2.2 when i saw how shallwo the tread was. As i said - the move up to 2.35 doesn't sound much but its a lot chunkier and mkre aggressive.
