anyone using an apple watch for route maps/navigation?
Currently use OS maps on my phone but looking at getting an apple watch and wondered if it works with these apps. Happy with just way markers on the watch from a pre set route.
Cheers
James
There is a komoot app for the Apple Watch. I’ve not tried it yet, but will give it a go. I think it just gives turn by turn instructions rather than following a track though.
I’ve used it a couple of times, and it was ok, but had to keep checking as once it went to sleep the app didn’t alert me about turns. It doesn’t show you the track, it just shows distance to the turn and direction of the turn.
IME Komoot works way better if you have a single headphone in and listen for the voice navigation.
If you want something to follow on the Apple Watch then ViewRanger works a lot better as it shows the map and also gives prompts to turn etc.
I had a quick play with it. Maybe it's because I've got an older series watch, but it didn't seem to work that well. When I started the route it did look as though it would give me turn by turn instructions (but no track or map to follow on the watch), but after a few minutes it had disappeared and I had to go back to the list of apps on the watch to bring it back. Maybe it would have brought itself back when I got to a turn, but I didn't get that far.
So, basically, it might be useful in some cases, but it doesn't really do what you want.
thanks all
great advice, ill have a go with view ranger
