Is there any easy way to see which ultegra cranks and cassette is on my bike ? Is it written somewhere on the cranks or rings ?

Just trying to avoid having to manually count if I can tomorrow when I set them up in the e tube project app. Crank length is from the center of the bottom bracket spindle to the end of the crank isn't it (so I just need to measure this I presume)

Should be written on crankset somewhere, usually, unless it's worn off. I forget where it is on cassettes.

Although, counting tip: count 90⁰ around the ring, and multiply by 4. Much easier than losing your place on a full circle.

Crank length is on the inside below the pedal hole. Will likely be 172.5. If the chainring looks smallish, it’s a 50, otherwise 52. Count a quarter round. Cassettes you can usually tell just looking at them. 28 looks big on a road bike,  about 5”across. 32 is huge and unlikely, 25 sleek and it won’t be a 23. Smallest sprocket will be 11/12.

Model number is identified on the inside of the crank. Ultegra starts with a 6xxx. How old is the bike? How many speeds. I have 6600 (silver), 6700 (black) with five arm spider and 6800 black 11spd with four arms. All are 172.5 length.

Thank you all. I will do that as soon as I get home

The bike and the group set is absolutely brand new. It's only had about 130 km on it so I don't think anything's worn off yet:) it's just a little bit annoying that the manufacturer doesn't list on their web page. What option they ship with the bike ( pinarello X7) - unless they do and I am blind

If you do have to measure crank length then it’s centre of BB spindle to centre of pedal spindle, not the end of the crank arm.

Nice bike!  Looks like  long cage rear derailleur, so I’ll go with a 32 on the back and a 50/34 on the front. I could count the teeth on the picture. Will be a 172.5 crank if you are average size 54/57 frame.

What about if you have a set of these? Do you measure around the outside or the inside? Maybe both and average them?

Thanks all

Whilst pinarello's site doesn't list it checking the website of the shop that I bought it from, lists all the specifications broken down by bike size

Apparently I have

Crank 172.5

Chain rings  50/34t

Cassette 11/34

Which sounds about right but I will vaguely double check today

Nope.  You measure from the centre of the bb to the centre of the pedal axle.  Make them whatever shape you want, it doesn’t alter the c2c distance.

I suspect it was a tongue-in-cheek comment from thols 🙂

I remember the furore in the early 80s when these were resurrected (again) by PMP. They've been around for a century to date and won't go away because it seems that a few people felt an advantage, even Ian Cammish a champion time-triallist BITD

...the arm length is clearly stamped "175", indicating somebody at P.M.P. understood it was simply an odd way to make a 175mm crank. http://pardo.net/bike/pic/mobi/d.pmp-cranks/
