I've a got job really early on Friday morning in Lancaster and I don't fancy driving down form Newcastle at dawn.
I'm thinking of arriving on Thursday and keeping myself entertained somehow. Not looking for the ride of a life time but could I kill a few hours on the bike in this area? Or even the south end of the Lakes? Just looking for a mellow one to ride solo and avoid injuries and then hopefully find somewhere to sleep in the van.
It's all uncharted territory for me so I'm grateful for any advice.

Thanks for the kind offer Reggie but through Facebook I've just found out an old mate is in the area and up for a blast at Grizedale during the day. Just checking some videos out now it looks fun. It'll be hard to reign it in on all those jumps! Don't fancy getting broken on a long distance solo trip.
