going up to glentress over Easter weekend.we normally use the cafe at the visitor centre but the food hasn’t been great the last few times we’ve been.need recommendations for a decent, rider friendly place for some post ride food.

It’s still crap. It’s like they’ve heard about a really nice cafe, but never actually been in one. Suspect everything arrives in a 3663 wagon. If Sirius Cybernetics did trail head catering...

The pub is ok. Soulless but Ok. IIRC the pub and cafe are run by the same franchisee?

Some great places to eat in Peebles though. The County do a fantastic steak.

Head back down the road to Innerleithen ..
The coffee here is the best around and although I've never had a meal there ..what I've seen being served to other folks looks delicious ..

It's a shame nobody can make that place work, but the hub did set a high standard! The Glentress hotel used to run it but they got put a few years ago. Good options locally are nashys at cardrona, and the Glentress hotel has new owners who seem to know what they are doing!

Yeah nashy's at cardrona. Leave the car park, on bike, cross the road, follow cycle path, go left after a couple of hundred metres, follow the path through the golf course, over the bridge and you're there. Maybe 10 mins ride.

Hi Guys,

We've recently taken over Bony's steak house at the foot of GT and hope we can offer some of the best pre/mid/post bike nosh in the valley. Please come and see us! You can even park and ride with us (free) as long as you're eating here.

Cheers

Muz

Yes we have some veggie and vegan options and this will increase with our summer menu.

The previous owners ran it as a steak house so we have inherited that customer base and all the equipment to do great steaks and burgers. But, we are moving towards a much more rounded menu which hopefully (🤞🏻) caters for a wider audience.

Thanks all for the support!

Rarely visit the GT cafe but the last 2 times I've been it's been great... visits were this time last year and sometime last summer. Although I'm not veggie so it might be rubbish from that perspective

Bonys always looks closed, heading up in June hopefully this year will give them a try, shorter walk than walking into pebbles every night for food. We always stay pretty much opposite glentress.

The cafe at the trail was trying to be posher than it should, I wanted a sausage egg bap or similar and they couldn’t offer it, I could have vegan cake, not great!

The cafe has stopped doing haggis sausage rolls. Insanity!

Given how many years it is since The Hub shut it is amazing that people still debate the quality of the food.

Can you get to bonys from the glentress car park or do you have to drive round.

We are open 7 days a week now, also now known as Glentress Hotel (not Bony’s) and we serve amazing rolls with all manner of scottish breakfast goodness including bacon from the local butcher, Stornaway black pudding, tatty scone, haggis and even smashed advocados on sour dough or smoked salmon. Hopefully catering for the very hungry to the very healthy!

There is a path from the bottom of the car park (below changing rooms). It takes you through the woods that are on the right as you drive in. HOWEVER... save yourself the £5’er and park with us. As long as you eat with us that’s fine!

Good luck Muz. If you can make it work well you’ll be onto a goldmine. Good food at GT has been sorely lacking for years. The fact you’re actually on here, communicating with your market is a brilliant start.

It is a nice wee suntrap at the Glentress Hotel cafe too - as opposed to sitting in the shade staring at a grassy bank in the perpetual cold at the Peel Centre if you take the outdoors option.

I will definitely be in next time I am up at GT !

I'll admit that I'm a massive fan of No.1 Peebles Rd but have seen a little of what the gang are planning for the GT Hotel and will be stopping by next time I'm over.

Me 👍

Do they have to be thick cut and served on a block of wood for you to call them chips ?

+1 for the Glentress Hotel for great food - kids and adults alike - and a great setting. Good coffee, good food, and good people. Plus, Give Murray enough bike chat and you’ll have yourself a free guide for the day! (If Mrs Glentress Hotel lets him out that is... 🤪)

Has the cafe at Peel been taken over? They seemed to have a bit more of a clue when we stopped there during Trail Days.

Oh and the Glentress Hotel is definitely on my list to try out - I heard good things about them now from some locals.

The bigger flies are a huge pain in the tweed valley at the moment. I had to abandon a ride a few weeks ago because they were so bad. Massive swarms everywhere

Thanks, sounds similar to Newcastle way, never known it this bad but had weeks of them now, approximately 90% of the worlds fly population were within a metre of me the other night 🙁
