As per title. Heading out in a few weeks for the first time in three years so just wondering if there's anything new that's good (not suicidal!)

Hoping the black from the top of chaltel down to linderets will be reopened, much better than the high speed fireroad of death and brake pad destruction they call a blue.

Otherwise will duck under the tape and remember not to trust the woodwork

`Me too, MBR has an article this month, suggesting there is a “not too difficult red” from the top of Chavannes Express to Morzine. The last time I did this, it seemed like a neglected, potentially cheeky route?

Also, same article, a blue route called “Atray” from the top of pleney.

Heading out in 3 weeks, looking like the champery world cup track has had a revamp, as has the pleney! Also keen to get up to Morgins as the lift was closed the last time I was over there.

On a side now, is run of the mill/porridge etc still going on the super morzine side? Heard there's been issues over that side resulting in the trails being closed?

I heard a rumour the Mossetes lift was struck by lightning and is out of action for the season???

Mossettes being closed would be a big problem - you'd have to trek through avoriaz and then up a couple of lifts - three thinking about it - to get to the ridge line and into swizerland - hope that's not the case

I've heard nothing to suggest mossettes is closed this summer. As far as I can see its still scheduled to open 28th June. There is a new "mossettes" lift being built this summer called Cases. It goes from Brochaux to the top of the Swiss National DH drop in. Also Lechere (not a summer lift currently) is being upgraded. I dont think it will become a summer lift because it would only shortcut the Lindarets lift and descent to the foot of the mossettes.

Stoner whilst you’re around 😀

Is the Prodain up avoriaz open in summer? Just don’t thinking there should be some good routes down to it but not seen anything on the trail maps 2018

Prodains is open in Summer. Not sure of anything under it. We've walked under there and there are bits that really aren't suitable for biking. Two sides are almost shear cliffs and the third side is pretty steep. Certainly no official trails and not really anything cheeky

There's an insane fire road down to Prodains. Basically the ski run down. Mental fun but be prepared to cook your brakes

Prodains is a fairly new bubble lift and if you base yourself there (bus service from Morzine) it is actually quite quick to get up to Avoriaz and down into Lindarets. If you really must, there is or was a steep zig zag track all the way back down.

The Prodains is scheduled to open early July. Its not a main VTT lift - primarily it services the summer tourists to Avoriaz. The descent off the prodain is a hare-um scare-um stony piste decent. Nuts, but if you have the bike, probably a hoot.

However there is also an interesting route via Morzinette back down to Morzine. A fair bit of hike-a-bike, Some tricky bits over exposed rock faces, but for a little something different, why not?

Looking at Avoriaz (from summit of Ressachaux) over Morzinette.

Any recommendations for must do trails in the area. Myself and a few mates are off to Morzine for the first time in a few weeks.

For a first trip I'd do a bit of playing in the bike parks (Les Gets and Chatel), a nice big tour to Switzerland on the ppds route. If you have the skills there is the Swiss national to the world cup descent from mossettes to champery, if not there are some great reds/blues going the same way. Basically just get out there and ride, don't spend the whole week in one place.

I've been a couple of times and want to try and get over to Mt Cherry and also Morgins this time. Luckily our group is with a knowledgeable "near-local" so we will get some off the beaten track routes in too - the last one, Col Du Cou, with lunch in a hanging valley in Swizterland was a fantastic day.

Stoner, thats really useful, many thanks. Heading out on Thursday with a huge crew of friends and family for the usual PPdS lark and then a few extra days family holiday.

Good to know what's open next Thursday, pint owed, thanks fella!

big_s_n have a great trip. I have some Malvern friends heading over. I wont get there until mid July, but have the pleasure of 6 weeks in the valley. For shame.

Which bike are you taking?

If you get a chance, always recommend a drop by La Marmotte d'Or (my local) in Montriond. Keep an eye out for live music nights. Great food too.

I'll leave you a pint behind the bar, will check out your recommendation.

I'll take both - the Chinese Ti HT, and the full sus. Really hate riding the full sus at the moment though, doing all my the riding on the new LLS hardtail, its just so damn good!

I 'did' PPDS on a fat bike a few years ago, as my carbon stumpy frame had snapped the day before. It wasn't so bad 😆

Well if you're leaving a pint there for me, better leave it for "Tall Mark" as they wont have a clue who you mean if you say Stoner (too many candidates for that one... ahem). Much obliged if you manage it!

If you're taking the Chi-Ti then I recommend taking it around the XCish trail the Tour du Plateau de Loex (Les Gets - from top of Chavannes. You can find it on the PDS trail maps)
Even better, stitch it into a cracking outing. Its more pedally, bit climby, (1000m of lift assistance, 600m of pedally climbing, 25km distance) you can follow it on an IGN using:
Pleney lift
Les Gets
Chavannes lift
Tour De plateau de loux
Les Gets
Chery bubble lift
Mont Caly
Col d’Encrenaz
Col de la basse
Les Paquis
Les bois noirs
Essert Rommand
and then back along the river valley into Morz.

I SO need to get back out there. It looks like I may be able to grab a week of solo fun sometime mid to late August, when the trails are at their most trashed 🙁

If/ when any of yous are out there, post up on here and if I'm around I'm more than happy to show you around some of the wider ranging stuff if you want.

So is the vink line any good? Berms look great but I don’t do gaps....

Mate was out there this last weekend - said there has been a huge amount of work on the trails, not just a scrape over - but complete rebuilds. All looking bigger and better.

Vink Line is good fun. The berms are huge but the holes in them are pretty rough on anything other than a DH bike.

You need to watch out for faster riders behind too, there's a few videos of people sending the big tables and landing on people in front...

They needed to! I was out there last August and everything was smashed to bits, more than usual.

I'll be back again for the closing week and was wondering if the trails from Avoriaz to Lindarets were now open, they were all closed last time, along with The French National into Lindarets.

Useful lift opening info if a little disappointed Nyon isn't open until after we return as fancied exploring over that way. Confirms Mossettes is open though.

So Vink line all fast berms and tables but no gaps by the look of it?

This
https://www.pinkbike.com/news/destination-showcase-chatel-bike-park-france.html

suggests the Vinklink is rollable, and fun on a hardtail... at least at this time of year.

Update post-visit FYI

At Chatel
Vink line lower down in the woods is great. Really flowy fast and as fun. Mid section was very washed out and bumpy into the steep tight berms, hard to get flow. Top section pretty nice mix of tech and flow, but a lot harder than the woods. Its a red there.
Loved the panorama at speed - only a green but loads of opportunity for airmiles even for a numpty like me. I'd done it 3 years ago but it seems to have been developed.

At Super Morzine
The new blue going to the bottom of the Serauxsais lift is great fun.
As I remembered all the other stuff (apart from the huge jump!) under Zore are great.

The steep techy route down to Crosets (Swiss Nationla?) was great - missed that last time.
We did an out there ride form the top of Chatel, Morclan and down the techy (Jenkins?) route into Chapelle D'Abondance valley floor. Good - but probably not worth the trek on a 30 degree day that we had, especially as the bus never arrived so a 6 mile road trek to get the last lift back to Linderets

pedlad, I'd looked at doing the ride into Chapelle, but feared the lack of return options!

Stoner, never got round to your pub, sorry! Will have to get you a pint another way 🙂

But I did get to do only half of your suggested grand tour of Les Gets. Plateau de Loex had beautiful views, and some really fab single track (some pretty steep chutes which were exciting in after the storms). But then at the bottom heading on the last bit to Les Gets, two front spokes went, BANG BANG, and I wasn't brave enough to do the second half for fear of a total mechanical disaster.
