You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Getting dragged down to see the in-laws this weekend. There's *got* to be something within half an hour's drive? Or perhaps even straight from the door? Can anyone point me at a gpx or map or something online that I can look at before I go?
This year has been stuttery to say the least. Need to stop missing weekends 🙁
Woodbury is less than 20 mins away. Google that (dont do gpx im afraid). But its big and nice and dry at the moment
There’s obviously Haldon Forest although personally I only enjoy this with my 7 year old son and find the trails otherwise very tame.

You need to do some exploring then! Ignore the official trails, because if you go looking up there, there's miles (literally!) of good stuff.
As for the OP, then Woodbury is your best bet. Plenty of excellent riding up there.
Saw Haldon on Trailforks, that may be a goer. I'd be stabbing in the dark at Woodbury :\
Woodbury is only minutes away, worth exploring
is a route to get you started.
Ajantom of this parish is a local, he might be along in a bit with a better route. New trails are springing up there all the time.
I can't seem to link to Strava on my phone atm. But I've got loads of woodbury routes on there. I'll see if it works from my laptop in a bit.
Both Woodbury and Haldon benefit from a bit of local knowledge, but on the other hand you can follow your nose at both and generally find some good stuff.
From Exmouth, if you ride up you'll come up past king's nursery and start near the quarries.
Otherwise, drive up and park near Woodbury castle. There was an MBUK route up there about a year ago that took in some of the good stuff...

As a fellow local to the area I'd echo whats been said above, Woodbury is just a pedal up the road, Haldon Trail Centre is okay, the off piste makes it and a strava stalk/segment explore should show up the good stuff.
I'd consider Haldon Cafeside too, its slightly easier to find, the trails mainly start from one point and theres one fire road climb making it difficult to get lost, has free parking and although it does have some jumps and drops, they are few and far between and they all have chicken lines around them.
What sort of riding?
Gravel type stuff up the Exe Valley trail to Exeter and down the other side.
Turn right at Starcross and up Mamehead to Haldon cafe. And back. Can take a 'short cut' at Exmouth or Topsham by using the ferry.
If its FS knobbly stuff drive up onto Dartmoor. Gets a bit crowded on the southern loop or M4 as its known though at weekends.
Dartmoor Killer Loop might be of interest if your fit enough.
I have a gpx of The Knobbler route start and finish on Woodbury. Its a circular route with lots of cross overs so you can shorten the route if you need to.
Danke all.
Dragging a n00b mate on a hardtail around but it's nice to have options. Dartmoor is a tad distant for the time we'll have tho. Cheers 🙂
Haldon is great, even the main tracks - but the best accessed early in the morning or after 4PM. Otherwise it can get very congested. Especially the Blue run - for some reason the Red is always pretty empty (too hard for beginners and too "tame" for STWers 😉 ?).
If using the car park in the evening you don't need to worry about being locked up, as the exit is available 24h (alligator teeth type gate).
