As the wet weather is upon us its time to sort out some rear mudguards

Ive got a 29er Mudhugger rear guard that goes on my full sus Levo E-MTB which ill fit this week

I need something for my Sonder Signal ST hardtail, so just buy another 29er Mudhugger or is there something better out there for a Hardtail?

Needs to give as much coverage as possible, can be left on all winter so zip tied on is fine

Nope, mudhugger wins every time for the rear.

RRP Vs Mudhugger forthe front.

RRP Vs Mudhugger forthe front.

Already have a mudhugger front that velcro straps on to my forks (has to be removed when putting the bike in the boot with the front wheel removed) so this can be used easily on the Hardtail and Levo

Just need to sort the rear out for the Hardtail

I hate it, but the mudhugger is absolutely the best of the bunch.

Can anyone feedback on how robust they are? Tempted to put one on the back of my Solaris for winter but don't want to waste my money if it's not going to hold up to fairly rough riding. Appreciate if I crash that won't help things..

I've used several but only broken one in a semi-crash.

The secret is to put something on the stays like old inner-tube or self amalgamating tape and then really tighten the zipties. The aim is to get the Mudhugger to sit into the material a bit to stop any vibration. Some people have had them rattle through carbon stays. Protection is key.

One of the best, and least visually attractive things I’ve bought for the bike. Great excuse to buy a ti frame - you can just attach them straight on 🙂

I have one ready to fit on my Trance X, has anyone had to shorten theirs as it seems very long, if so by how much?

I've had one for about 8 years on various bikes. Still holding up.

Mudhugger rear now ordered from Wiggle for under £17 delivered (had a discount code)

@jakd95

Had one on my Levo for the last two years, its been in a few crashes along with being chucked in the car most weekends and its survived fine

Top tip for when mounting and wanting to protect your paint job, i always fit the supplied protection tape, then use a wrap of Gorilla tape then finally i fit 3 zip ties to each seatstay before fitting the mudhugger with the zip ties supplied

This way when i mount the mudhugger it actually sits on the top of the 3 zip ties on each seatstay and not on the frame, this means if there is any movement it wont damage the paint work and if it begins to rub it will break one of the zip ties before it gets anywhere near to damaging any protection tape/paint work

The Mudhugger has stayed rock solid using this method for the last two winters

Noooooooooo. Don't do it. You'll just end up with something that is butt ugly and doesn't quite do the job it is intended for, rather than what everyone above says... butt ugly but works impeccably.

You'll only know that you had cut it to the right length the week after when you trim a bit more off and the damn thing doesn't work anymore.

Nope, in fact I've lengthened mine with a mudflap for use on a 29+. Stops even more spray 👍

For the front I've not found anything better than the Crud XL.

Combined they're ugly as sin, but you do stay much drier.

I have Sonder Ti with mudhugger 29er. The tiny extension made all the difference. Bit expensive for what it is, but dry arse, priceless.
