Race or wide in 29er style, any feedback??
Looking for a 2nd lighter wheelset for my chameleon when I do some events like 10UTB, Kirroughtree 10 instead of the chunky trail set I have now.
I've got the xc.
Only ride it 110 miles so far.
Seems fine in 29"
So far so good
Yeah... Got the xc wide on my race SS... feel a bit lighter than the hope pro4/arch combo i had before, and look the bomb!
Feel nice and stiff too.
The rapid engagement for the rear hub is good on the SS!
DrP
(disclaimer... I was gifted a pair to race on the big dog as part of the hunt team... But I'm honest in my reviews. For example.. I got a great discount on a USE VYCE stem as they're a local company. It's shit! Who needs ONE bolt for the whole stem?!! There... Honest DrP review!)
I've been using the XC wide 29er wheels for the past year or so.
Absolutely no issues with them, they're nice and light and were easy to set up tubeless.
Can't fault them really.
Watched a fella (who put 50p in matt) get 2nd in the twentyfour12 enduro with hunt road rims.
Not sure which matters tbh.
I have had the XC Wide (25mm internal) since June this year. Great quality product in terms of what you get in the box (tubeless valves, spare spoke, spoke key) and also in terms of their finish.
Set them up tubeless with some Maxxis tyres and (after some trial and error with sealant...) they went up with a track pump.
Ride quality is good, and their light weight definitely helps. Good hub engagement and a subtle but pleasant freehub buzz, if that's your thing.
Although mine are on a Rocky Mountain Element (XC bike) they've been to Antur Stiniog, Llangollen DH and some local steep and techy DH and they've held up just fine. On very fast trail centre type stuff, you can feel some tyre squirm but then they are only 25mm so that's to be expected, but for general riding I'd say they are absolutely brilliant value for money.
Of course, Hunt do also do other models for trail and enduro riding but so far, given I've put mine through abuse they aren't designed for, I can't fault them in any way.
For just over £300 I'd say they are an utter bargain.
I have my eyes on the new carbon ones...
I've had XC Wides on my Solaris for over a year. Top notch, great noisy freehub, perfectly true out of the box with spare spokes. Hold up Conti 2.4s nicely, tubeless was no problem, very light for the money. Look great 😀
Can't think of a reason to go elsewhere (I don't have an LBS anymore :-()
As the others have said, it is very hard to recommend anything else 😀
Coming pre-taped with valves in the box is a really nice touch and they were spot on the claimed weight too
I bought some 29" XC wides.
After they got dirty a few times I kind of forgot that they are for 'XC' and they have had a proper hammering. I've not had a single issue with them.
Someone may be along in a minute to say that you can make them yourself on a for less pennies by buying the unbranded parts and building them yourself. Or buy them from Hunt with a warranty etc.
