Ok, so the Go Pro Hero gets all the rave reviews, but have anyone lashed up say a Flip HD or similar non-bike video camera to their bike or helmet?

And got good results?

What is to stop me strapping a Flip to my chest, like a GoPro?

I've used a Flip HD to take a few films when riding. Tried bar mounting and helmet mounting.

Results can be seen here - http://www.youtube.com/my_videos?feature=mhee

The Go Pro mounts seem to work really well, but I use the Flip for loads of other movie making and it works really well as a non bike specific camera.

This Eagle Eye looks similar to the Drift but cheaper, anyone used one of those?

I'm currently using an ATC but whilst its good fun, the results are ok at best.

Do people speed up their trail riding vids cos on mine it looks like I'm bimbling along with the speed of a slug....??

I use a kodak zx3, simply cos I wanted good quality footage, and it records in HD. It's pretty ace, and waterproof so handy for filming out here.

Get some half decent results too:

Pook, how do you mount the Kodak whilst riding?

The ATC suffers (I think) from poor image stabilisation? Looking for something thats ok batting down some rocky trails without getting the nickname 'vibro cam' 😉

To be honest - I don't. I had an ATC 2K, and it was awful for wobbly images. I found I was getting more appealing videos if I limited the on board stuff and focussed on nice shots - but then that's just me.

If i were to mount this I think I'd have to work out some gaffa tape heath robinson thing - but I don't think I need to just yet.

Nice one BigG....how do you marry it up with the GoPro Mount? All the Go Pro mounts I can see on line look like they're hinged and mount direct to the GoPro?

I dont use a go pro mount, it's a mount that I bought off the internet that I use. It secures with two velcro straps and has a screw that the camera is mounted on. It was about £12 from memory.

If I planned to use the camera more I'd invest or make something more secure (loads of ideas on the net).

Before i got a go pro, i used to use a compact camera strapped to the bars - first wrapping the bars in innertube to try and isolate the vibrations and then using large releasable zip ties, strap the camera on. The footage wasn't too bad, but having a big soft fork (shiver dc) helped dampen the vibrations...
