I've just bought an Orange F8 rigid (steel) fork for my hardtail and it looks great. I didn't weigh it before fitting as I'm not that bothered but have just noticed the claimed weight on the Orange website of 1095grams making it only slightly heavier than some carbon rigids. I assume that it's up to the job of getting knocked about off-road.
I have some i use when my bouncy forks are being serviced. They do the job, and seem pretty strong. I wouldn't worry.
Used one for years (or maybe it was an F7?) on my old clockwork.
It did it's job and turned the wheel when I turned the bars etc.
Anyway, I wouldn't be worrying about that sort of weight. There are whole frames around that weigh less.
