I had one of the cartilage meniscuses (menisci?) removed from my knee many years ago, and increasingly, it's starting to swell/ache from riding, especially from MTB-type stuff where there's a lot of bone-end on bone-end jiggling from riding down bumpy stuff. It's similar to how it gets when I go skiing, but to a lesser extent.
I have a knee support/compression thing that I'll often put on afterwards, and that helps, but I was wondering about getting something to wear whilst actually riding. Anyone use anything. any good?
I had a patellar tracking issue once, after a knee sprain and tear of the medial collateral ligament.
I used a brace that only allowed the knee to hinge as it's meant to, and kept my patella moving in the correct direction.
It worked, but was super sweaty and disgusting, and caused blisters and horrible chafing round the back of the knee.
Thankfully I only needed it for a month or two. It wouldn't have been a viable long term solution.
Yeah, that's the thing, my experience of trying them skiing is kinda similar - they're either comfortable, which means they probably don't actually do much and tend to slip down the leg, or they're useful which generally means they're really uncomfortable.
It's worth a try. My knees don't like knee pads, but I'm thinking I need to wear them as I twanged my left knee off a rock in December - it possibly lead to an injury recently for no reason - off the bike 3 weeks with it.
Certainly worth it when doing bumpy stuff.
My patella strap is a must ,works a treat and you don't even know you are wearing it.
i use this when cycling, after having 2 bad knee injuries in the past few years and currently waiting ACL repair and knee reconstruction.

I have a bioskin support that I bought to start skiing again after acl reconstruction, and meniscus trim.
Haven't used the bioskin cos skiing got binned by covid, but recomnded by my orthopod
However, the thing that has worked really well for me, over and above cycling, is lots of kneehabilitation exercises (split squats, single leg rdls, lunges, step ups) and #kneeovertoesguy routines.
That extra work pays dividends, but need to do it regularly.

Forum doesn't seem to like amazon links (fair enough really) but kneesovertoesguy has a book on there called knee ability zero....a good intro.
Have the book, and also hear good things from other folks (tennis and running)
Don't know if these are helpful for your particular situation, but worth a looksee.
good luck!
Watching with interest as I'm sat with a torn acl & miniscal cartilage.
Orthopaedic surgeon appointment is at the end of July.
