I am considering one. Not for gnarly low impact middle aged dad mtb vids. Just for safety on the roads as there have been a growing number of attacks on cyclists in my area. Are they worth it, any good ones on a budget?

Currently using a Polaroid Cube - found it cheap on Amazon (£40 + £8 bar mount) Probably the best of used in terms of picture quality and sound (tiny microphone, but its really sensitive- especially to foul language 😀 ) Only thing it's lacking, which my previous Shimano cam had, is a phone app for reviewing footage. Wouldn't be an issue for most, but I can't connect external devices at work, so have to wait until I get home to view/delete what's on the card.
No way would I pay hundreds of pounds for one of those Fly ones, not something I deem important enough to splash out on.

I've ridden with a GoPro (of varying models) for commuting over the years. The problem with helmet-mounted is that it's difficult to get the vertical angle correct, i.e. you're either filming the floor or the sky. Riding position changes too, so it never seems quite right. The problem with bar-mounted is the vibration, in terms of both picture and sound (drowning out all other noise). I've settled on shoulder-mounted. Seems to get a consistently good picture (in terms of what it captures) and the sound is clear, too.

I’d like one for this too, it would be nice to have a light and cam combined, so as to only have to keep one thing charged, but Fly is expensive...

Bar mounted perfectly fine for me. Will post an example (might be dubbed, cos I swear too ****ing much). Only one I have at the mo was edited before uploading to YT so some quality was lost.

DezB, that looks pretty good. Which cube do you have and how long does the battery last? Also have you tried different mounts ( with the cube ) and have you used it at night?

Its the 1st version, think the 2nd has wifi connectivity, but the sound quality isnt as good. Sound is stupidly clear off mine, you can hear every snort and deep breath I take. Battery length isn’t brilliant - hour and a half probably. Night quality is ok, similar to any others I’ve used really.

I"ve got a Fly 12 CE up front and a Fly 6 CE at the rear. The image stabilization is excellent on both.

Aye, was it a Notting Hill carnival float following behind?

Dez, yer vid stops just after the astra turns off - did you follow & kill the driver or what??

Battery life is the issue for me. Our last two incidents happened at 90 minutes and three hours into their respective rides. My GoPro Session and Sjcam both die before then.

AKASO cams seem to have good reviews. They look like cheap versions of go pros but from £50 to the most expensive being £119. you tube clips show very good quality. I wonder if they are as good and it’s just and android/iphone thing going on with the gopro. They also come with 2 batteries, which don’t solve the problem of longer rides, does help a bit.

Dez-does the cube loop around when full?

I have the Aldi rear Fly light/camera copy which is great (one successful prosecution for incredibly dangerous pass). Would like something for the front as well.

Does anyone have one plugged into a USB off a dynohub?

This does appeal to me for both bike and car. I can't think of any incidents where I would have used the footage, and I don't want to turn into shouty YouTube uploader but I guess I could be a hipster about it like DezB 😀

Questions questions!
No, I didn't chase down the Astra - he already bottled my offer of a chat by the side of the road and I was on the way to work, so didn't really have time for all that..
The music is from Youtube's free library. You just select it in the editing suite. The er, original soundtrack got banned from the whole internets.
The Cube has option to loop round or stop when card full - the loop round option makes loads of 2 min files (or is that the not-loop-round-option? can't recall) - I've set it to make one single file for each trip (man).
Rear camera option seems a bit "going-looking-for-it" to me. But I don't judge. 😀

liking the cube Dez.
Fly6 here (I figure if I'm found dead in a ditch it's almost certainly going to be captured on the rear camera....not so much the front).
hear good things about the fly12 but its expensive, I'l toying with the idea of using this years bike2work allowance on and fresh fly12+fly6 combo

Liking the Cube as an option too. Would it be possible to extend battery life by running it off a power bank while on the bike?

Yes. I have it on a GoPro mount (generic £3 obviously, not a £20 one just to have a name printed on it) next to my stem, and have ziptied my power bank to the stem on the rare occasion I've forgotten to charge.
