Hi all,
I have a work meeting in Yorkshire on Tuesday 14th - travelling up from Surrey on Monday in order to fit a good ride in Monday lunchtime/afternoon (I'm up for an early start to get there in time!). I reckon the peaks is a good place to do it, so was wondering if any locals want to ride and show me round? I was thinking of cut gate or something similar, but am very open to suggestions of routes and ideally some company. Otherwise it'll be me and my Garmin!
Cut gate will be very wet and a bog fest after a lot of rain.
Sorry I can't guide you as too slow and unfit atm, due to 9 weeks off the bike.
Oh, has it been really wet up there? (It’s very dry in Surrey!) It could be anywhere really, just looking to get a great ride in and take the opportunity for it to be somewhere i haven’t ridden before. Thanks for the advice!
Given it seems no-one's around on Monday to join me (the offer's still open!), I thought about doing this route Ladybower loop - would the conditions be ok, given the feeling was that Cut Gate would be a bog fest? Is it a good route choice?
Just had a look. I think it takes in most of the features of the area. Hollins Cross and The Beast. Fairly easy to navigate too. First part of the loop after the climb can be a bit muddy. Its a fair old loop with some good climbing in it. I wouldn't bother with Cut Gate it will be a bog fest on top.
Thanks teamslug, looking forward to it, hope the weathers ok!
The east part of that loop should be fine but the Hope/Edale side is a bit shit IMO - you have to slog up the broken road to Rushup Edge and Chapel gate, which aint worth the effort. The climb to Rushup will likely be wet, muddy, and rutty, and Rushup itself is a bit meh. Chapel gate is a waste of a descent, absolutely nothing interesting on it. If using that route I'd go straight on to Hope Cross at the point where it turns to go down the Roman road, then you could do some loops taking in Spud alley, Beast, and Hagg farm if you want to extend.
Oh, and keep an eye on koftheP on Twitter - should be useful for condition updates.
