You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just wanted some feedback on their trips esp the Big Mountain safari and the Torrid Affair
Not been on their trips but chatted to Andy McKenna that runs it. If the trips match his enthusiasm for them and his love of riding remote trails then they'll be epic.
Thanks Ninja had emailed him when he ad just launched Go Where but didn't follow up.. just trying to decide whether I should sign up for one of his or an Alps trip
I've stayed at his house in Innerleithen (innerhaven.co.uk) and all my dealings with him have always been 100%. Our default choice for somewhere to stay when we're up there now...
Do like the idea of getting driven around the highlands and riding some awesome big hills though!
Thanks Davey might just start researching the whole thing... might as well see Scotland perched on the saddle
You won't beat Andy for knowledge, laughs and general niceness. He's very good a getting it right and tailoring to ability/fitness and adjusting for weather etc.
Not done a trip with him yet (Need to sort that) but ridden with him quite a few times and had rave reports from friends who have.
Yes! Go Where is great.
Did the Crown Jewels trip with Andy last year. It exceeded all expectations. Big big days out, big hike-a-bikes, amazing singletrack descents, lots of wildlife, well organised at every point. The joy for our group was having someone else take the pressure off you having to make decisions about weather, route choice, get-out options, arranging vehicles in strategic places etc. It means you can just ride and enjoy the scenery while Andy does all the fretting – which he does with a cheery hairy grin BTW.
The riding was easily as technical as the Alps, but with no-one else there. You get back country adventure in spades. If you want lift queues, coffee shops at the top of every climb, and big egos, then it’s not for you. If you enjoy riding your bike where few people have been, then I’d give it a go!
We enjoyed it so much – we are back later this year for round 2, joining him on a wee Torrid Affair trip.
You can even see the video of our trip here. which one of Andy’s guests filmed.
Not been on a trip yet but I'm booked on the Torrid Affair weekend in April. I've been impressed so far and I'm really excited about the trip. I just hope my legs are up to it, they spend more time under a desk than on my bike these days.
I'll post up a review after the trip.
Remember that 1 Torridon Mile = 3 Real Miles.
The riding there is incredible.
Had a great time on the Crown Jewels trip last year - amazing variety of riding that we managed to pack in to a week. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it .... so much so that we're doing a return trip this year 😀
There are some photos on Flickr here ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/simon_r/sets/72157631536225045/
Can't recommend the trips highly enough. Andy has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area, works hard to do his own research and sweat the detail in the off season, picks the best bits and serves them up for clients. You'll get waaaay more than the guide books tell you about but... the best bit....
Andy manages to get the culture of Scotland across to his clients in a fun and exciting way, whether its bothy nights on incredible beaches, whisky sampling in Applecross or speedboat transfers on the west coast. The best of the riding woven in with the best of Scotland...
I suppose thats enough of blowing his kilt up, just get your trip booked !
Go where and will provide you with a unique cycling expedition to match your experience an budget. He knows the Scottish highlands like most people know their way to work. Can't recommend him enough and his chat isn't bad either. Book him. I will at some point this year.
Thanks much all ... just about to email him with my shopping list
