Bapass, have you tried the conversion and if so what was the result - looking to buying some spare forks for my Alpine and some 27.5's may be the way forward.

A friend has his 26" Five running 650b no problems (he did have to lose the front mech due to clearance issues though). Not sure what forks he is running, Fox of some kind, 34s I would guess.

Yeah, Fives are odd, the cable routing is about 15mm from the back of the seattube. Swap to 1x10 and it looks like you'd have tons of room.

I tried it on a SS a few years back after having an Indy Fab 650b made as I wanted both ss my bikes to share wheels, the handling was terrible, the bb was too high, wheel base was slightly long and just rode crap. Don't bother, if you want a better ride change the bike to a 650b specific.

You can do it on a Surly 1x1
Dunno why you'd want to unless you want to raise your bb height slightly. I'm interested in the reasons for tollah's wheelbase getting longer though 😉
Wheelbase longer as it was on a slidey dropout therefore wheel had to be at furthest point back.
Bb height was an issue, it just felt too tall and unstable compared with the 26inch version and my 650b specific.

Thank goodness for that! There was someone else on hear who's bike got longer without moving the dropouts 🙂
The tricky thing to watch out for is not the tyre touching the brace of the fork - it's the tyre hitting the crown when the forks bottom out.
'Cos any situation where your fork bottoms out is not a situation where you want your front wheel to stop dead.
