I was on a black bimble when the southereners were on the big hits and was a sunny day IIRC:) Bailed out after deliverence as I was short of time. I can't remember who was there- I think Vosh, DGOAB, Sanny, ChrisL and MC where there.

Vosh & DGOAB have went over to the darkside and are tarmac only.

Hi Jedi,

Not on the Glentress ride, but I enjoyed the Peaks ride with your mates. That was probably 2002/2003.
Time flys!!

We were up around that time with our girls, we stayed at the Glentress Hotel. I seem to think you were riding a Big Hit at that time.

I remember it being talked about but never made it...then after the event I got bored senseless by someone constantly talking about Jedi's riding skills as he rode the fences whilst others were sorting kit in bags...

It sounded a good ride (despite the constant broken record from the fanboy) 🙂

Thing is jedi, you were (and still are) a bit of a legend. many a tale of you riding along the small fences on that ride, all on a bike most would deem too heavy to be supported by 2" wide wood.

I'll remember it fondly. (I'm not the fanboy, am i?

not sure if it was that one, or just another time I first met Drac, about the same time anyway. just chatting away on the black route to some fellow MTBers, spotted the CHR sticker on his bike, then erm, noticed pointy teeth and thought, that must be drac.

DGOAB has been putting in a good few miles on gravel these days.

Still a legend in our girls eyes. After watching you ride them fences they asked for some shore for Christmas

It couldn't be delivered down the chimney but Santa left it in the back garden

It was made in 6ft lengths to carry into the field

Boxing day 2003

Was thinking I might have been on that one. Recognised the bike before my own face!

Yup still here. I’ve some massive blanks from meet ups, mainly because I was still drunk from the night before.

I recall being at GT on the day of the ride but not on the ride, and meeting and briefly chatting with jedi at the end of the ride. There's a decent chance that I'd been riding with Vosh, DGOAB, WinstonSmith and the like, but I don't think I met Sanny until later, so I guess he was on the other ride.

What name might I remember you by, @lobby_dosser. 🙂

(I am still MTBing but not as much as I ought. Other than cycle commuting I have remained safe from the siren call of the darkside.)

Never mind the Glentress one. I've still got a More Ears Than Gears sticker on my fixed bike. That came from a singlespeed outing on Cannock Chase organised through these columns many years ago. I remember Chipps turning up on his rather lovely Willier singlespeed.

2003 - I'd have been away from the area but recall a Glentress ride with jedi and the southern contingent some years before - 2001 possibly - no idea who was there.

A different meet-up - I think saw a spin with drac but that might have been even further back in time, 1999 or so.

Sanny I think I first encountered on one of the pre-event rides for the Merida event in Selkirk, to check the trails and bed in the newly cut sections. And possibly some other meet at Glentress with some pedal swapping.

Only recently moved on from the M2 hardtail that I had for all the years of riding at Glentess - would be great to go back with something less full-on 90s race geometry.

Hmm, I've just had a quick look at some very old diaries and they've reminded me that I didn't start riding at Glentress until the end of 2003, so it would have to be another STW meet-up where I met Jedi, probably in 2004.

Myheadsashed is still of this parish too. I was speaking to him just this week. His mate James bought the Maverick of awesomeness off of him. A truly lovely bike. I believe that it is still going strong.

there was a gathering at Glentress on the morning after a Northumbefest party, fairly certain that I and RHS drove there and rode with you Tony and a few of your crew, its all a bit hazy now

Yup that was the one Steve, just popped back to say you were there. I believe CraigW was too, Phil and Lucy from Bike Verbier and a load more.

A drunken haze though like so many of my main biking days. I always thought I recalled everything when pissed but the number of gaps I have says otherwise.

Not ridden properly for years. I seriously miss it at times especially the social aspect. Met a lot of people who will be good friends and we others who I have no recollection of meeting.

hello.

I’m lovewookie

I feel like I got the same greeting in a motorway service station outside Birmingham, and Jedi and the crew were all dressed like terminators. Either that or 'lamb lover'! And then at the uplift, having to listen to a guy from Brum moaning all day that he was so slow due to the bottom bracket on his Balfa was too low. Which given current bike geometry makes his moaning even more daft.

it's quite possible, I travelled a reasonable amount from Glasgow to Malvern/wales back then.
