I was wondering if anyone has stayed here and seen what the quality/availability of the bike hire at the hotel.
We will probably do more road cycling than Mountain Biking, for mountain bike will likely use a local guiding company with bike supplied as this will probably easier for navigation and suitable terrain.
Made the call to hire bikes when we booked , now sort of thinking I wish I was taking ours!!
Any other advice welcome for cycling information for this area and good road routes.
Hopefully the roads are not too busy around here.
Its not going to be a 100% cycling holiday but I want to do at least 3 or 4 100km max rides to not loose too much fitness and keep the legs for an event coming up.
Thanks in advance.

no experience but have passed the hotel a few times. Very nice.

It is on the side of a big f'off hill though - be aware when planning your routes!!

Lots of good quality tarmac in the hinterland of the main Algarve coasts. In my experience I'd say very quiet roads and generally OK drivers when you do encounter them. Having said that avoid the old west-east N-125 coast road - busy with non-toll traffic and not as pleasant as the hillier roads inland.
Lots of routes on this site of varying lengths and difficulty Algarve GPXs.
You can mountain bike on the Va Algarviana too (long distance walking trail but will be hike-a-bike up to the Monchique mountain) - I've made some nice loops on that too.
Bike Hire from the Specialized dealer Bike Algarve on the way into Faro from the footy stadium/Ikea at Loule has been good - you should be able to get a reasonably good road bile - I've had 29er hardtails from them that have been fine and not too expensive - loads of other hire places around too.

Didn't do any roadying but was out there a few weeks ago and used Jim and Gaz (Gav?) from The Mountain Bike adventure for off road guiding and up lifts. The Calibre Bossnuts are basic but very capable bikes. The riding is brilliant and lunch and a coffee thrown in was a nice bonus. There are other companies who use that area but Jim lives there and builds the trails / establishes access rights etc. himself so there's no better set up really. Recommended.
