Ā You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My knees point ever so slightly in, on long hard rides (around 3hrs) I start suffering cramps in the inside quad just above the knee. I also suffer a bit the next couple of days with pain across the front of the knee (feels like it needs to be 'cracked' like my knuckles do sometimes)
I'm wondering if I shim the cleats out slightly to straighten up my knees on pedalling this might help?
When I use flats I notice my toes can point out a lot more than when clipped. Any advice welcom
i have and i wouldnt advise it unless you have it on good advice that its a good idea.
i did it and it solved my knee issues, happy days however it caused a right old mess up in my pelvis about six months down the line as everything adjusted to the new position.
suggest you try Spesh BG footbeds - you get shims that go inside the shoe and you can add/remove to suit
get you bike set up properly. i was so grateful after having my road positioning sorted - stills feel like it fits better than the other bikes even though i ride it the least.

DT78 you're Southampton way Yeah?
I had mine done with a bike fit session here
Ā£60 well spent imo. ThomThumb off of here and a few others have seen them too with good results. I've got a slight leg length difference from a badly broken femur and have had knee problems too, sorted me out.
Nicky and her husband are both really keen cyclists, more TT and IronMan but MTB too.
[Edit] Too slow Thom beat me to it š [/Edit]
Anyone know of anywhere that does this around Sheffield, Manchester, Ledds, NOttingham etc. I'm not after a full bike fitting as for me on an mtb that's not so relevant but for my cleat wedging I'd be very interested as one knee points out rather a lot.
Southampton based, and I went to see Nicky a couple of years ago (on this forums advice) when I first swapped flats to spds and started racing.
Back then I wasn't experienced in clipped in riding so just wanted a basic fit - I think now I've had a good few seasons I need to make some adjustments. Probably is worth me spending the cash to go see them rather than just fiddle around myself and making it worse!
I've been reading this blog over midfoot cleat position - very interesting, when I ride flats I use the arch of my foot, always thought it was odd that spds are ball of the foot placement
