I am looking to purchase a Giant Yukon fat bike. I have just hired onbto ride in Norway.
Fits perfect so i contacted a Giant desler in Yorkshire. They replied sayithey couldn't supply one as it is not a model to be sold in the UK.
Is this correct ? Anyone have a clue ?
I am sure you'll find someone who'll do you a cracking deal on one...
What was the title of 'that' warranty thread that was Giant related again??
Did it get resolved?
Anyone got Ian's number?
Am i missing something ?
Or have all Giant bike failed and killed the owners.
^^^ Tony, fear not 😁. I gave just ordered a Giant Revolt X. I’m not overly concerned about the well documented warranty issues that are being referred to, having previously had a Defy replaced via the lbs that supplied it.
@ton, there was a massive thread on it. The thing I took from it was if I do anything on the bike myself I have voided the warranty. Everything needed to be done by an approved giant dealer. Don't be changing the bars! Warranty voided. Half way up a hill and get a puncture? Better call an approved mechanic.
Giant didn't cover themselves in glory on that thread. I think in the end with some social media interest it got sorted.
It put me off ever buying a new G Ian t. (this is where Ian came from)

Giant had a really poor showing on here in response to someone who had a cracked frame. Long story short, Giant wouldn't honour the warranty because the owner had done some maintenance on the bike himself. The UK main man popped on and didn't give a very good account of himself, particularly given that the majority of the forum were watching the thread unfold. Someone will post a link to it I'm sure. I would, but, well, the search... Anyway, the outcome was that quite a few people said they would never buy from Giant again. I think in the end they sorted him out a new frame but only after a lot of messing about.
Does it have to be the Giant Fat bike.
Would you consider others such as Trek's Farley, or the Canyon Dude? Something from Smoke stone such as the Henderson?
Ok. Thanks for that. I will have a read through the thread.
A link to the thread would be great. IMHO that thread on its own wasn’t too bad. I think the OP stripped the frame and they wouldn’t honour the warranty. They used a bit of small print that said you couldn’t work on the bike yourself. But I didn’t the impression that this how they treated everyone who had worked on their own bike. But I might have missed the end
There was a shorter thread later from guy who bought a Giant ebike from Paul’s Cycles. It looked like Paul’s cycles weren’t helping. But Giant seemed to be really dragging their feet. This was a bike under a year old. The faults were electrical. To me it was exactly where you would expect a warranty to kick in and sure you out.
The fatbike is under 27.5 MTBs on the Giant website but only seems to come up for USA and Nordic countries.
If you order from overseas I'd imagine warranty in the UK would be pretty irrelevant anyway.....
Ton, there is a UK fatbike buy and sell on Facebook. Some good bikes come up on there and not the usual FB Marketplace asshattery.
If still over there could you buy one and bring one back with you?
Sounds like you want a not very cheap shopping trip 🙂....
Road trip to Sweden via the Hull-Rotterdam ferry?
City break in Oslo or Helsinki?
Will the hire place be selling any off at the end of the season?
I ended up buying the same helmet we hired in Finland, but that was a bit easier as they were available in the UK.
FWIW, Yukon (in most sizes/colours/models) seems to be pretty much sold out across Swe/Nor/Fin.
If you're in Norway now, and can find one, add a bike bag to your return flight and bring one back.
Or, as above, city break at a later date if you can find stock.

if you go this route, make sure that the wheels fit in the bag.
Did you ride on groomed trails in Norway? Such good fun, so much grip.
i think you’ll struggle to buy a fat bike in the uk. Not many companies import them. They are available in Canada and quite well priced.

@LAT yes mate we rode on some cracking groomed skiing tails. i was the back marker until i quit, and when the trail was good it was awesome, but it was very windy on the open sections, and the trail had covered over with blown snow. also the snow was soft as it was just below freezing, so there were so long bike pushing sections.

You want to go play with these guys - mtb fanatics using trail grooming ploughs behind skidoos which leave a perfect U-shaped singletrack to ride in where you use the edges as soft berms.
@ton Fat Viking?? Have done the Global version 4 times. The real thing is tempting.
A mate is selling a carbon Canyon Dude via Back Country, large(I think) and great nick.
