If you listen to some of these comments, you'd think drink driving was OK if its someone you know

I think it's more a case of just wanting Sharki to turn up safe rather than wanting to give him a hard time for his pecadillos.
I think most of us feel that way so can we just keep it on topic.

Please ?

what shane has done or not done is no one's business but his.

he has to turn up in a pub or equivalent soon, he'll need to charge his camera......unless he's using batteries!

Is there a chance that the attention this is drawing could drive him further underground?

I wonder if the mods should just remove all the comments RE drink driving? If hes feeling like society hates him and then sees the judgmental stuff on here that might be too much for him if he is in a dark place...

I would suggest the negative stuff ends and focus on the positive stuff, i have never met the fella but he has some, well lots of people pulling for him so if he reads this thread he should realise he has all the right people waiting to sort out his "issues" and get him sorted. He will miss his kids, his mam although she will probably clip his earhole he will get over it and he has his biking buddies. Sharki get in touch with someone now and get home for the weekend mate, take the hits and move on.

**** me. What's this Rambo, do they think his eaten the dog.

Seriously what about the Spain thing, can he leave without it flagging up somewhere?
What concerns me is that he must know someone that's not going to judge him, someone he can contact that could ease him back so to speak?

i'm pretty sure he hasn't got a valid passport which is why the spain thing isn't getting much thought.

there are plenty of us who he can come to without judgement

MM Totally unwarranted comments, hope recent events have just led Sharki to hide away from life to get his head sorted and that he turns up safe & sound. All the best!

can't you fly around the european union on a driving licence?

passports aren't essential documents to travel.

Another thing being out for so long now he must be in need of some cash and so if he's used his cashpoint or cards it would of got flagged wouldn't it?

Police have downgraded the search level I thought (previous comment on here) so doubt they'll be bothering checking bank acct details.

I'll just put this thread back on track.

Sharki, make contact dude. Loads of people prepared to chat and help without judgement. Plus we need to ride very soon.

I'll even give you a special cuddle. Reach-around goes without question.

I don't think You can. I can only use my passport or my national ID card but not the driving licence if I want to fly somewhere.

Do you mean the driving licence he lost for drink driving? 🙄

just because he's "lost his licence" for drink driving doesn't mean it's not a valid piece of ID.

whilst typing this ive just been informed you can fly in europe with UK ID card but not a driving licence

I'm not going to post a message as such, because I dont know the guy. I do hope he turns up safe, and I wish people would stop posting inflammatory sh**e whilst he's still missing. I'm probably being naive, but this forum appears to be increasingly unfriendly of late 😕

It's standard procedure to conduct financial intelligence checks in circumstances such as these. I can't imagine for one moment they've not been completed.

Hope the fella turns up soon safe and well.

All the best.

Come back soon dude, hope you are just chilling in the sun somewhere but drop someone a message when you can.

If you are upset about something, talk to someone bud, nothing is too bad that you cant overcome it.

To the people searching: sorry i cant help im miles away but keep up the good work dont let your efforts wane (im sure they wont) and i hope this has a happy ending for everyone.

Think positive folks, there's no one better equipped to look after themselves in the wilds of errr Somerset and Devon than Sharki, in fact it is so wild there are places out there that dont have internet access. No news is good news and he has not surfaced cos he doesn't want too and has no idea that all this fuss is going on.

BTW did a week in the Sierra Nevadas in March and you can't fly to Spain without giving your pasport number, new security regulations that came in this year. I think it is intended to make them Europe wide eventually. Do believe you can still get the ferry on an ID card though.

Getting a bit miffed at this guys!
We're looking for a mate who's gone missing.... Whatever his issues I dont really care, if he wants my help or opinions once we've found him thats fine, if he doesnt ask ill keep them to myself. Im sure he knows what he's done.
Secondly why are the news kicking off at the Police about this Dog search? The police did all they could and have to exhaust all options before putting someone down as missing. Whereas the dog can be reported immediately because it just buggered off and didnt have any other agenda!

If they released the report straight away and we found him 2hours later out on his bike they'd have looked rather silly!! (And the news would be full of missing people who'd actually just popped to the shops!)

They have also checked any transactions, they were doing that when I got there on sunday. They've dealt with it pretty well. I'd just like to know he was 100% ok!

the police also took us with them to help search which helped me feel not so helpless(I used the word help a lot there). They could have asked us to move on and stay out the way.

I hope Sharki is just living the dream in the woods & doesn't bother to comeback to this bollox. That said I hope he is well & is just in hiding.

Get in touch with your mates dude, if you need anything they can't give you then get in touch, I'll do my best, if its only money then I can do Western union through one of your friends if you don't want to be found.

Come back to your family & feel the love...

Shane, my porch is falling down. If you don't come back soon the missis is going to make me do it when I'm home on leave, so you'd better hurry up. Oh, and I promise the dog won't get you up at 3am, make you take her to the back door in your shreddies then stand there and look at you like you're a **** before heading back to bed. Again. 😆

Seriously, just let us know you're safe mate.

Perhaps if you dissapeared someone might care about you, I guess you would like to think

I've never met Sharki, don't know him but it seems many on here have, and he seems to be a popular member of the STW 'Community'. Whilst I'm not obliged to expend any emotion on him, I still hope that he's ok, like I would with any Human Being.

I can kind of understand what ro is saying, but I don't really think it's appropriate on here. Your comments are obviously upsetting people, and this is neither the time nor the place to be making a point. Why are you trying to make such a point anyway? What do you hope to gain? Is there perhaps not a more sensitive and considerate way you could do so?

Have a heart, eh?

Ro is attention seeking! S/he's worried that if s/he disappeared no-one would notice/care. Surprise - someone else here who actually knows Sharki! He is entertaining, generous, engaging, a skilful biker and has gone out of his way on several occasions to play very gracious host/guide to me and others on the Qs. Like nearly everyone else, I don't give a sh*t what he's done or hasn't done and hope he turns up safe and well soon.

Anna - funny you should say that. Ro has actually been here before, and I got a ban for 'tag abuse' on a thread where s/he was being equally mouthy. Nobody missed him/her when they'd gone, nobody celebrated when s/he came back and nobody will notice when s/he goes again.

Ro - Funny that an online mountain biking community misses one of its most generous members and wants to see them back safe & sound. If you're not interested then don't read the thread, it's hardly impacting your life is it? And don't let the door hit you on the way out (again).

My first posting on this thread, but felt compelled by Ro's comments. For the record I don't know Sharki, but have enjoyed his posts on here, and have also benefitted from some of his tips on riding in the Quantocks, he's obviously greatly liked by those who do know him, and I hope he's safe and sound.

Ro - What exactly is your problem? You didn't have to read this thread, let alone waste your precious time responding to it, if you don't feel it's worthwhile. The fact is, a lot of folk on here do think it's worthwhile, and you should respect that.

You are doing the wrong thing in the wrong way for all the right reasons.

I think it's safe to say, that you are doing the wrong thing, in the wrong way for all the wrong reasons. I'd get your coat, if I were you...

Sharki and I were a pair for both of our first 24 event SITS '07 as Butch Chickadee and the Come-Dance Kid. He's a sensitive and gentle guy who does a lot of soul searching beneath the 'smiley' 'whacky' exterior. I just hope he's having an extended period of soul searching and comes back refreshed.

Sharki, as we've said before in person, there's a place to lay your head and a warm welcome in the Highlands should you need/want it. Jo, Matt and the kids xxx

Hairychested: I bloody hope so!
Sharki so very kindly took me round the Tox a few times last summer (once in the pissing rain!) and joined me in a cream tea afterwards. This not knowing where he's at is just horribly worrying. I keep anxiously checking back here to see if he's surfaced - man, i hope he does, and soon!

Coming ready or not... world championship hide and seek anyone?

Don't think he's in Amsterdam although there were a lot of drawn curtains in some parts of town last week and he could have been behind anyone of them.

Hope you're reading all the positive posts here Sharki, where ever you are.

Blimey, this is not something you want to find after a break.
Sharki was the guy who was pretty much responsible for the police finding my stolen bike, and has helped with trail side repairs on a couple of occasions. He was one of the few people who would help without question.

I, like most here, hope he is ok. I have posted around other forums as a long shot and will forward on to work who live in the area.
