I'm getting towards the end of the build of my Mega and have noticed that the bottom of the front mech fouls on the rear linkage at the very top of the stroke on the rear shock when in the granny ring (as the rear moves up). Has anyone come across this before? I'm running 2x9 and the front mech is a standard XTR jobby not a double specific.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Yep ran a double on my Mega for a few months - you need a double specific standard front mech - will clear ok then. This is what I found worked for me:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=27692 or one of the new XT M786 2x10 standard front mechs.

I'm running a triple mech as a double on mine and it's working fine. It's an Xt dual pull I think.

I ran a triple XT up front and it failed the linkage, swapped to a double specific SLX fine now. Check the clearance when you've deflated the shock to check chain length.

Thanks for the replies and the links. Think I'll just go ahead and order the SLX front mech and try that. I was confused as I was thinking that no matter what mech I use, the bottom of cage will still be at the same height (i.e. just below the chain) but I think its the length of the cage that's the issue and those double specifics do look a lot shorter.

Just noticed that CRC are doing the Saint 2x9 double for £17 and looks like the same cage as the SLX 2x9 double.

Gutted that my 1st ever piece of XTR kit aint gonna work! Oh well, guess it can go on the hardtail.

Cheers for the info!

Make sure its the conventional one + not a top swing one i.e. as in my link above.

Saint front mech is no good as it's for 83mm bottom brackets - so the chain line/ shifting range will be way off.

SLX M667 is the one I used.

Good point, the bottom of the down tube is "crimped" slightly, to allow for swing arm clearance. This means its not truly circular so a front mechanism with a low clamp won't clamp on properly.......not sure whether that's what's meant buy top-pull. It's the more compact looking affair that you can't use, which is a shame as it looks a lot neater.

Top pull is were the cable comes from. Top or bottom pull. Conventional is the traditional high clamp style. Top swing is the compact low clamp style. Both can be top or bottom pull or dual pull.

She-ite! Already ordered the Saint one... That's what I get for being a cheapskate! I'm gonna order the SLX one now. Thanks again for the info. This (my 1st) build is becoming a right royal PITA. Hopefully CRC will let me return the Saint one as I've never sent anything back to them before.

Cheers for the advice

That's made me feel better about it. Cheers! Now to the garage for some reverb cable shortening and routing....

No sign of any clashing on mine and I've been riding it all year.

I'm new to this thread.
The SLX 2x9 conventional front mech peopole are going for...
Is the unisize one ok for the mega. Its the cheapest at £22.99.

Or do you have to go for one that specifies 34.9mm
