Currently have 29 x 2.35 Barzo/Mezcal combo which I like but the Mezcal does seem to come up wider so thinking of Barzo 2.6 or maybe the Agarro.
Anyone using either? If so what width are your rims as mine are 29mm internal.
Not that the Uk seems to have any stock, but that seems a lot of tyres in general!
I used to. Ran a barzo on 30mm rim and it didn't quite look as big as it should.
Was happy with it and a mezcal on the rear for a couple of years.
Have since swapped to a 2.6 reckon front and reckon race rear. Comes up bigger than the barzo and grip is massively improved on the front with minimal added rolling resistance. The race on the back has slightly more rolling resistance than a mezcal though. Ideally I'd run reckon front mezcal rear.
Might have a look at the Rekon combo at some point. I can find the rekon 2.6 in dual or 3C maxterra. Not sure which one is best.
As for the race, have found stock of 2.35 dual. I did see they do a 2.4 but in WT which I think is for 30mm+ rims.
Not yet but will be. Currently run a pair of Mezcals in 2.6 on my hardtail. Love them so managed to find a 2.6 Aggaro and planned to try that as a front with one of the mezcals on the rear on my full sus to see how it works as summer/autumn/spring combo. My hardtail has 35mm rims, my full sus has 30mm.
However I’m off to Morzine in few weeks and CBA putting them on now only to take them off again for that, so going to wait until I get back.
Agarro 2.6 seems very hard to find!
Yep, I was on and off looking for a while. Randomly found one from Heales cycles which looked to just be an independent shop with an online presence. They just had the one as was out of stock after I ordered it.
Anyone used Maxxis Wide Trail tyres on 29mm rims?
The reckon race I've got is the 2.4WT, again on 30mm rims. It's absolutely fine. Don't see why it wouldn't work on 29mm.
Both my reckons are 3c maxxterra 👍
Anyone used Maxxis Wide Trail tyres on 29mm rims?
Yes. Tried a 2.5 Maxxis DHF and it was fine. Also have a 2.6 Rekon on a spare wheel. Not used yet but the profile looks fine.
I’ve just purchased a 2.5wt dhf too, to go on a 30mm rim. As couldn’t get an agarro or barzo to match the mezcal in the back (oh the horror of non matching tyres!)
Not fitted yet but see no reason for it to be too wide for a 29 or 30mm rim.
And have a dhr2 2.4wt to go on the back when the time comes in order to restore tyre brand harmony. 😁
Currently got a 2.6 Agarro on the front with a 2.35 Mezcal on the back on 30mm rims. Used them for GT7 and have just left them on as it’s an awesome dry weather tyre combo.
IME the Agarro is 99% as good as the DHF I run the rest of the time but rolls so much nicer. The Mezcal on the back is just a tyre that defies explanation, it grips so much better than it looks like it should but rolls like a slick. No wonder it’s so popular at World Cup XCO’s
If anyone is interested I’ve got a 29x2.6 Mezcal lying around that I used on my old bike but doesn’t fit in the back of my current one. It’s only done about 100km.
I must get around to trying Victoria tyres .I'm hooked on michelin wild endures at the moment
Think I will get a 2.6 Agarro when they become available again.
Seems a bit of a shortage at the moment!
