I like the idea of a self-contained unit but it looks a bit, er, exposed sitting on top of the bars. Just wondering...

they're tough as old boots, don't worry about them

as long as you don't tighten the clamp up too much they will twist away when you fall; believe me ... 🙂

I had my joystick mounted under the bars, looks neater, no issues.

Friend had a Race mounted underneath too.

No reason why not so long as your cables don't get in the way

Lights always under bars where possible. Tidier.

For on-road use I find it easier to dip them when they're on top of the bars (Joystick) when I'm approaching a walker

Mind you don't get more shadows cast by your cables and hoses and that it doesn't hit the top tube if your bars over-rotate.

Hitting the top tube in a crash would be my worry too

On top for longer throw and less shadowing. Who cares if it looks neat - it's dark, FFS!!
