Being a bit of a tool I managed to tip boiling water on myself when draining the sprouts on Xmas Day (true story, not proud, in fact, "pretty cross" covers it) and have some fairly angry blisters under the dressing.

Now the important bit: reading about how burned/scalded skin needs to be looked after I am wondering if Lycra is going to be a Bad Thing next to the vicinity or whether I need to wear some sort of cotton liner for a while. Merino cycling shorts? Overthinking it? TIA!

Draining the sprouts? Euphemism?

Nope. I wasn't mashing the spuds nor stuffing the turkey either. Just draining the sprouts.

If it's not healed, don't ride, surely?

I didn't mean right now, I meant in the future, eg. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-and-scalds/recovery/ seems to suggest you should take care with burned/scalded skin for a while afterwards.

No plans to ride until it's fully healed.

Maybe some kind of moisture cream E.g. Minty Arse butter over the affected area so any material won't rub, once healed and you can ride again?

You'll probably be fine. I badly scaled my thigh with boiling water, not enough to go to hospital but enough to spend 40 mins under a cold shower and about three weeks with a dressing / cohesive bandage on it.

I kept riding with the bandage on and once the final one came off I've been wearing normal bib shorts as before with no ill effects, I occasionally sudocreme the scar but mostly forget about it until I have a laptop on my lap which is very uncomfortable on the scar due to the warmth from the battery.

No not that. That will sting.

Thanks tiim, sounds familiar. I did get it checked at hosp but only because the NHS website said to do so if blistered and on legs. I made sure I waited and went at a less crazily busy time however since clearly it wasn't life threatening!

Will just have to see how it goes I guess... Thanks all.

Having burnt my face off I can recomend some srt of cream either E45 , Sudocreme or maybe Norwegan Formula had cream. Maybe try a Melonin pad dressing , they are designed not to stick and have an absorbant backing . So any weeping will be wicked away , some sudocreme on first though as a precuationary then you should be ok.
Think normal or roubaix lycra would stick, and open up any damaged tissue when you peel it off
Burns are nasty and take ages to heal,I was lucky , tiny scarring and only lost some feeling in the end of my nose

Yeah, this was my main concern. Obviously I won't know until healed up etc but the worst blistering is right at the top of my left thigh where you can imagine the most "friction" on the shorts. A dressing (even after healed) was another way I was thinking if it's looking delicate. Thanks for your reply, facial burns must be pretty unpleasant but glad you've had less ill effects than you might fear.

With mine once a couple of layers of blisters had cleared the new top layer of skin feels like scar tissue and doesn't pull / rub on lycra so has been fine.
While it was healing I was very careful of the gripper strip on the bottom of shorts and either folded it over so it was on the outside away from the healing skin or just wore 3/4s or tights so there was no thigh gripper. I kept a dressing and bandage on for another week or so after the final blister to avoid issues.

Usual logic - it is looks delicate or sore - take care!
