Is it even legal? OS map has a black dashed line for majority which is 'Path', same marking as ranger and Llanberis path.

Had a couple of goes at hiking it but for various reasons never finished and always wondered about riding it (would have to avoid crib Goch obviously even with hike a bike). In North Wales this weekend and was thinking about having a go for something a bit different.

Walked it twice. Both times thinking what would go on a bike, not much! Second half opens up more, if you hunt around there are mtb routes that take in bits of it ( I've ridden, no details to hand, can dig out)

Much of it would be excellent riding but not bridleway. The best routes would certainly avoid some of the summit / regular walking routes.

You'd need to be pretty confident to cycle from Adam to Eve....

I lent some one a bike to do it in the 80s. I think they carried it. Not legal and tough. But what is life without a challenge

I can't think for a second why you would want to. A lot of it is completely unrideable and probably even unwalkable with a bike (Crib Goch? North Ridge of Tryfan?), and the rideable bits would be on highly cheeky trails in one of the most popular and iconic national parks. Also it's one of the great walking challenges, so doing it on a bike would completely ruin it.

It'd be an epic run carrying a bike with a couple of good descents thrown in. I guess you could devise an mtb alternative, but you'd still be left with some pretty unrideable terrain, the whole of the Glyderrau area I'm thinking, the endless slog onto Pen yr ole Wen, Crib Goch... I think it might get a bit irksome.

If it isn't legal I'll not be doing it. Happy to blur the lines between footpath and bridleway, but not for that distance and not in a national park (was asking as the same marking seems to be legal to ride on Snowdon). As for "why", we all enjoy different things, life would be pretty boring otherwise. Would I ultimately end up enjoying it, possibly not but will never know without trying.

If you do it - film it. The carnage would be funny. Also, I suspect much cursing and angry people.

This. Especially Crib Goch or descending from Tryfan. 🙂

As you say, the black dashed line is 'Path' - a track on the ground, but not a public right of way.

The Ranger and Llanberis paths should be marked with long, red dashes - i.e Bridleways, which are public rights of way.

Danny Mc could do Adam to Eve (and probably most of the rest of it :-/ )

long, red dashes

... on the 1:50,000

or long, green dashes on the 1:25,000

(too late to edit, sorry)

The descent off Tryfan was exactly what I had in my head 🙂 Lovely route mind, just not on a bike.
