hat weight are you?
90KG.
My mate has also now had the same mod on his 36 and found it much better too.
Just because this thread hasn't had any pics for a while here's one from yesterdays ride.

I do like a nice Pic Stu.
I'm trying to resist the temptation to ask Piecostomus the why question.
Phil I'm selling it as I've ordered another one! Just got to wait to come back from the next two world cups and pick it up on the way home!
Anyone with the gearbox version had their belt tensioner wear in relatively few miles? Mine was getting rather sticky because the aluminium part had worn where it enters the nylon lined section. Trying to get a replacement from Nicolai but not had a response so far.
Aside from that how are you getting on with the pinion? Tempted to see if BTR can make me a pinion hardtail.
I like the pinion, I'd happily have a hardtail to go with it (in fact if I had the cash I'd already have ordered one from Travers). More range than I need and I love the ability to change a load of gears in an instant even stationary. The benefit of less unsprung weight is real too but only on a suspension bike of course.
Big caveat though, have a go on one. You won't have to google much to find people who don't like the shifter, weight or price. They also moan about shifting up under power but I only find that a slight issue between 5th and 4th.
Chainline is it 155mm max on the back with the 29er Geometron, or can it go longer? What sort of fork travel and head angle are people tending to go for? I'd probably go 29 both wheels I am loving the G13.
Shandy, It depends which one....The G16 as a 29er is ideally only 155mm rear.
IF you want 170mm, which it's capable of, then I'd suggest doing that as a custom due to the compromise in BB and SA at that travel.
155mm is spot on, but the longer shock creates a BB that is too high basically.
However, before doing that, if it doesn't offend you, I'd suggest testing the hybrid 29/27.5 G16 setup.
We think that gives all the big benefits of the 29 wheel without the downsides at the rear. The added bonus being if you want to run 155mm 29er rear you can, if you want to run 170mm hybrid you can, no change to front required, just switch wheel and shock/flip chip, BB and angles are spot on.
I'll have a chat to Chris about a non custom full 170mm version.
Thanks, I think it'd definitely be worth testing the hybrid. I don't tend to mess with the bikes much once I have them set up so I can't see me doing a lot of swapping between rear wheels. I am still a big fan of the G16 but I think the bigger wheels work well for me. 155 is great at home but I have a bad injury history and after 2 or 3 big days on holiday I start to get pretty beat up. I was looking at the longer shock on the G16 for the Alps this summer but I might just hold off and try a few things at BPW in the Autumn.
How do you like those Bravos? I have Traildogs on the G13 that I really like but I'd be tempted by the extra warranty on the big bike, I'm about to be on my third Flow in 3 months on the G16.
I'm impressed with the bravo's. Slightly sneaky 32h on my 27.5 wheels. Std set for the 29 wheels.
I've not used the rear 29 so much on the G16 but do on the G13.
I'm a huge fan of the hybrid, so have the mix. I really like the way the front steers at these angles with the 29 front.
I've only been using the ebike 29er fork which is slightly different internally and closer to the 40's in stiffness. Still not a 40 but hey.
I wont be using the 49 if available as std anyhoo as the offset is daft.
We're using the 44mm offset on the 29's at 61-62deg head angles and its lovely and as mentioned with the hybrid the back tracks nicely into a carve. The std 40 27.5 offset is too high I think. 49 fork is ripe for mods!
If we get the chance and the size is half right can always try my hybrid or speak to CP.
I'm the same on getting beaten up, thats why I ride the longer travel most of the time.
Chainline, what's your take on this? They even credit Chris Porter?
https://m.pinkbike.com/news/transitions-new-speed-balanced-geometry-2017.html
CP knew they were looking to move forward yes, I've had a few chats with him about it, some cumminicado may have taken place...it's not as far as we think is optimum but a step in the right direction..
I think I've mentioned the scary offsets in the WC right now. 60+ on the 49er fork I understand, crazy, I wanted less on my 40 than 51mm BUT with a 61deg HA.
My GeoMetron is a hair under 61deg with the 29er front and 44mm offset, it steers great low and high speed, why on earth anyone would want 60 on a DH bike with a sub 63 HA is beyond me...it's like the early days of the 29er again in reverse
I can only imagine its due to the fork manufacturer is not closely linked with the bike mfrs overall..
Of course Mojo has been able to offer these changes due to small production etc. and the fact we are always experimenting. I still have adjustable crowns in the garage...they might have to come out again for a 49 fork!
The 29 36 is easy to manage and you can convert the 27.5 180mm with 29 lowers to be able to run 44mm offset and 29 wheel or even 37mm. you can even keep it at 180mm but it's a bit tall.
I'm having a new frame built, based on the pole geometry, so very similar to the geometric (if only my money stretched that far). I should be looking to get a fork with the smallest offset possible?
That new Nicolai looks lovely, I reckon that would be great on my local trails
Howsyourdad, its the new, lightweight (for a Nicolai, short travel xc bike. Unfortunately they left traditional angles on it....
yes just been to their website and looked 67 degree ish head angle. whats the world coming to!!?
It's been on their site a while - the Saturn. Looks dissapointingly like a lot of other bikes, I thought.
https://www.nicolai-bicycles.com/shop/bike/saturn-11-raceline.html?___store=en&___from_store=de
Just putting my part list together for the geomotron.
What length of dropper post are people using on there bikes? XL or XXL size frames thanks.
Also what size is the seat clamp?
On my 2016 GPI it is a 34.9 seat clamp and a 31.6 seatpost. You should probably check with Mojo/Nicolai depending on who you are buying from in case it has changed.
For dropper length I went as long as I could and just about made a 170mm reverb fit by removing the connectamajig but mine is a 'Long' aka small. Measure carefully and get the biggest drop you can I'd say, why do anything else?
Agree, big as you can. Most use the transfer 150mm, its good, reliable. But if you can Longer why not.
I think the XL and XXL may be 30.9. On a 34.9 clamp I'll check.
I tried a pole the other. Was Lovely. Geomatron looks better though....
I'm building up the proto Mojo GeoMetron NotSoLong for those between 145cm and 165cm.
There will be demo available in the not too distant but I'll be looking to get a range of riders to test this one to get feedback, it will all be accompanied and during a day. I wont be loaning this one out for a period
I've been given the name of a lady enduro racer but if anyone is interested (either because they are interested in one or interested to help) can they message me.
Can't guarantee anything as I need to get a schedule together.
The initial build will be a trail build and with the 145mm travel setting with 160mm up front, but it will take any UK abuse with a rider up to 65kg.
If heavier I may need to change out the wheels but no big deal there if thats the case.
I'd really like to get some smaller/younger kids on it too of any ability from relative beginner but enthusiastic (probably how I'd describe my daughter) to good riders.
I want to understand how riders who don't have preconceptions/ideas of how a bike should feel or aren't really used to a shorter setup get on. i.e. do they just ride it and enjoy, adapt super quickly or not.
Buccaneer/chainline
Thanks for the replys
Chainline
Blake Jr is just a bit short for testing which is a shame as he loved Chris bike and didn't want to hand it back.
170mm Reverb on my longest, its a long post overall but didn't have any problems fitting it.
In the spirit of fitting the longest you can, the Vecnum Moveloc is available again and comes in a 200mm version which Chainline had on his original custom FG Nicolai.
blakec It's a guide size at either end really.
Chris' bike? The one that got temporarily built up?
At the end of the day I'm sized up. It's the standover really thats the limiting factor and how we set up bar widths. There are only 2 of these so if he rode the other one...
Chainline
Sorry a bit miss leading Chris let him ride his own bike (the XL) around the carpark. It was way to big for him but he didn't want to give it back.
ah, makes more sense!! I'm not convinced it's not too big for Chris! He was on the XXL. Perhaps he's gone back. I'm seeing him at the weekend so I'll check.
I thought you were on about the NotSoLong!
I'm going to buy a Ion g16 frame... but I'm 5'7', so what is my correct size...S vs M?
Thanks!!
chastis, if you can try one first. It's a matter of personal preference.
I'd suggest the S, but you could easily set up the M to feel right. It depends on your riding style.
chastis I'm 5'8 on a long (small) and very happy but test ride is the only way to know for sure
Anyone know which bike bags a longest Geometron will fit in? I know someone mentioned the Evoc bike bag with shock removed, are there any others?
My longest goes in an Evoc Pro no problem, just need air let out of the forks (180s)
My XL G13 goes in the Chainreaction bag. Good bag for the money actually. Dithered about an evoc but only use it once a year and it was a fair bit more cash. This one....
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/chain-reaction-cycles-pro-bike-bag/rp-prod114204
I can fit my large g13 in an evoc bag, I have to spin the forks 180° and take the caliper off, but it fits.
When your G16 longest goes back to MOJO for a remodel!

doesnt seem to work Paul J?
Its to do with the photobucket screw over.
Shame as there's probably a load of good photos on this thread that'll have gone.
Anyone summarise day to day at 155 travel and 160 forks? On southern trails.
How about uplift days/dh tracks at 170 travel and 180mm forks?
Dean there are that many options now that you are best doing a demo at BPW.
What do you mean by summarise?
As Shandy says, it's very configurable.
I have a friend who uses one 155/160mm as a day to day down South. But to be honest 180mm front or 160mm front pedals the same and can be made to feel similar just with volume spacers. It is easy to change travel for a big trip if you buy the 180mm version first.
I also have a friend who uses the 170/180 as his everyday bike down south.
At 170mm/180mm it eats uplifts/dh and I used that for everything until I put the 160mm 29er front in, I now use 170mm/160mm as everyday and uplift bike.
Best is to try a 170/180mm bike with the right setup and decide if that suits you for everyday as the weight is the same. Just swop wheels for xc or dh.
So..... on XC trails, think swinley for example, will it kill any possible fun? IE, can you stand up, stomp on the pedals, pump, get to enough speed on mellower stuff to make gaps up along the way? Or are you simply stuck to sitting down twiddling and that'll be all it will ever be?
I stand up and stomp and do what you describe on my 170m. Dmaping and volme spacers set up to suit. Maybe honourablegeorge can chime in here.
I love it on moderate stuff as you can carve the bejesus out of flattish corners, I leave myself breathless gathering speed 😆
I live in the midlands and ride at Cannock when not going further afield and on more local, even flatter trails. It's still great fun.
There is always the climb switch or just tweak the damping since it takes 1 min if a day on flat terrain beckons and you don't want the expense of 2 shocks.
Another alternative is to drop in a 216x63 DPS or older RP23 (other makes of shock are available) to run 155mm at the rear, have some 'trail' damping and drop 350g in weight again if Swinley or similar.
CP is 90+ kg and rides 170mm on flatter stuff too. The local tracks in Stanton are not all gnarr by any stretch and need some pedalling to get max fun.
I have just as much fun on my GeoMetron as on my old Rigid, it's just different, I've kinda moved from on the limit of the bikes traction and twitchy responses to embracing the G and high lean angles of great carves and front end grip a plenty. The feeling of a swoopy singletrack with successive opposing corners, flat or slightly bermed, driving the front round and flipping the bike side to side...lovely. Wishing I wasn't sat here at a desk typing this, I'm getting all excited about riding!
I'm on 180/155 and find it a great bike - I have a hardtail I ride on flatter terrain, but when I do take the Geo on that stuff it's efficient and fun, I've never found myself wishing I wasn't on it. Don't find it at all unweidly or dull - the flat corners thing, yep, he's right on that.
I do uplift DH, regualr steeper "enduro" trails, trail riding etc, and never change settings, just jump on and ride, all I've done is set sag and use the settings Chainline kindly recommended for me, and find it just does it all. Tried Shockwiz, and changed nothing but a click of LSC.
I rode a 160/160 26er Nicolai Ion 16 previously, and the 180/155 Geometron doesn't feel less fun or playful in any way
So..... on XC trails, think swinley for example, will it kill any possible fun? IE, can you stand up, stomp on the pedals, pump, get to enough speed on mellower stuff to make gaps up along the way? Or are you simply stuck to sitting down twiddling and that'll be all it will ever be?
Personal preference and only you can answer imo. I have a G13 which I think is a great bike, really enjoy riding it and I'm constantly amazed by what I can do on it. That said I also have a new Chameleon with plus tyres and a 130mm fork. I come from the 'knife to a gunfight' bike approach so I am naturally biased against Chainline's view but there are some trails in Surrey Hills which are just a lot more fun, for me, on the Chameleon. The Nicolai feels dull by comparison, like I'm arm wrestling it into doing something that it can do perfectly well but at the same time, it doesn't really want to do. It wants to go fast over rougher terrain whilst being smashed into corners at every chance, not hussle along a trail which points vaguely downhill where the biggest tech challenge are some roots that are tentatively breaking through the surface. The Chameleon on the same milder trails actively encourages you to ride like a kid again, attempting your best Voreis style on trail manuals and popping off tiny roots etc. I think it comes down to weight difference, the increase in get up and go on pedal input that you get from hardtail/shorter travel bike and that feeling of the bike getting unsettled from roots etc in the trail. Anyway, my tuppence.
Gotama - MemberThe Nicolai feels dull by comparison,
*points at 29er wheels*
*taps nose*
🙂
😀 Pffft, it does still go round corners which is a source of constant amazement. 😀
I'd have a g13 given half a chance. There was one second hand in the classifieds that gave me serious pause for thought/divorce
I think Gotama sums it up, personally as mentioned (with bad typing) I find it more fun than my old short travel and/or rigid bikes not less but it depends what you like doing.
I went out not so long ago on my Stooge and was seriously underwhelmed as I just couldn't drive it into corners in the same way.
Each to their own. The way to determine if it's too dull for you is give it a go 😉
There be a few stock G13's available at Mojo young Paul tells me, across all sizes.
If anyone is interested get in touch direct. I gather there are deals to be done.
Why is that Phil, are they being phased out?
Still like to try a G13 in longer!!
Regards
H
Any g16 deals to be done?
CatVet, no not to my knowledge. More people have been buying G16s recently. Mojo carry stock and only have so much space not taken up by suspension which probably neatly answers Julian's question....
There have been more 'long travel' releases from the mainstream this year in 29er whereas last year it seemed to be 'shorter travel'
That

I really wish I hadn't read that ...
You want the G16 mate. 8)
There's another one appearing in our garage soon. 😀
I loves my 16 I must confess. The fact Singlespeedstu feels that way enough to go 2x makes me very happy indeed
It's not for me, that'd just be greedy.
Mrs stus has been bitten by the Geometron bug. 😆
I did warn her not to try one unless she wanted to buy a new bike...
Thought that might be the case. That up's the stoke further
Hey chainline, just seen geometron's post on insta. What's the info on the custom shock for the g13?
I was gonna post on here. Can't link pics via Flickr via phone!
Headline is Chris/Paul have developed a custom length DHX-2 coil for the G13 to deliver 148mm of rear travel to match a 150mm front (or less of course if you choose up front)
They'll show it at Ard Rock, there will be a demo bike there.
I'll probably get hold of one to fit to mine for demo purposes.
It is of course retro-fittable and can be combined with the potential deals on the current G13 frames.
Any details on the shock? Is it still 190 length with just a longer stroke?
Longer stroke, 190mm length.
For those wondering; longer travel G13 with custom DHX-2, 148mm rear travel.

oooh. It's built. For those who've been in touch I'll be in touch.
For the record H is 5'2" or 158cm tall. Bang in the middle of the size range.
The bike is built with a 160mm fork, 145mm rear (158mm with a different shock) and comfortably fits a 150mm dropper for H's height. It fits great and gets a big thumbs up from the carpark test!
Weight is a genuine 13.2kg/29lbs. with 2.35 Magic Mary and 2.35 Maxxis Aggressor EXO.

Owww look at the ickle Geometron it looks so cute.
I'll have to show these pics to my mates youngest.
She'll love it.
Thats really nice!
Nice! Thanks for the msg too 🙂
Literially, just got the G16 built up since coming back from Mojo and had a day at FOD. Between paul and chris they have manage to do what I was asking for.
So the G16 is now equipped with 29er wheels front an back, 180mm 27.5 CSU with 29er lowers. 450mm swing arm but still running the original x2 at 150mm
2016 G16 Longest
Head angle 62 degree
seat angle 76 degree
BB 347MM
29er front and back
Its an amazing bike, I've had the G16 29er/27 rear set up and loved that. But wanted to give it ago 29er front and back. I've enjoyed all three set ups on the one bike. Something i didn't think I'd ever own one frame that could accommodate so much tinkering.
Bit of a trigger/del boy broom set up you could say.
Pics please Paul.
You can't make a post like that without pics. 😀
Chainline is the MiniTron frame raw or is that a painted frame?
I tried the other day singlespeed stu, photobucket doesn't seem to want to let me do it.
It won't Paulj they've changed the rules if you try postimage.org instead I. Works no bother! Plus I really want to see your bike!!
Chainline
The not so long no looks great
Paul j
you didn't happen to see an XXL g16 lying around? Going with a similar set up to yours. Just waiting for Toby to get back to me to see if mine has turned up.
Paul were you getting 170-odd travel on the back before, with the 27.5 wheel?
Shandy, if Paul was running a 222 he would have been, there is no restriction. I am running mine 170mm rear 29 both ends for various testing runs. It works well with the BB at 350mm. I'm also running 155mm sometimes.
The 155mm doesn't need any offsets and can just run with the chip in 222 but with the 216 shock.
The 170mm, 222 shock with two offset bushes gives a 350mm (give or take a couple of mm) and good HA and SA.
350mm BB height steers the best with the 29's for me, I think its the same BB drop as the 29/27.5 from memory.
I ran the 155mm at 340mm BB and was less keen on the ride, I ended up adjusting the shock to compensate for the feel.
The NotSo Long is a raw finish.
The final package will be a bit lighter as that one currently is running DH wheels front and rear even tho they are carbonium.
Super happy with how it's turned out and the fact it looks right and clearly rides right for H at that size, despite a WB longer than Flo Payet's WC Mondy as CP pointed out. 😆
When I do the testing and hopefully get feedback and quotes I want to not really mention any of the tech specs
like weight/geo and concentrate on ride feel/grip/confidence etc etc.
I'll need to mention a bit about the technique to get the best out of it/the front but I'll try and keep it to that.
If we start comparing the spec's to other manufacturers bikes/size recommendations the internet will rapidly pass judgement and distribute alternative facts and fake news!
[url=
This is the one you really want 😀 that's if the link works...
Edit, the second one might work...
So hang on, are we saying you can happily run 29 wheels in the 650 version?
I like all this Geometron stuff but should I ever be able to buy one, I'd not know what to actually buy.
I think you get a massive sprue with about 4 different swingarms and 7 different shocks on it
